[TC] Complete List of Ship Sources + Ship Collector's Helper Spreadsheet (spoilers)

Post by nponoBegHuk » Fri, 15. Apr 11, 20:18

repost from here

In the second post of this thread you can find a full list of ships (except some drones/lasertowers/whatever) sorted by class and race, which you can use to look up quickly what ships it is possible to get. And if possible, how exactly.

There is a total of 296 unique ship types able to be obtained in this game. You can reverse engineer and then produce 294 of them (The exceptions being Pirate Ship (TS class) and Xperimental Shuttle.

I decided to expand this post from just a list to contain more information regarding ship collecting overall. This was more or less common knowledge on this forums around 10 years ago, but I figured the newer players can have trouble searching through the forum to find bits of info they might need. To keep things tidy, I'll enclose different sections in spoiler tags, so an aspiring ship collector can quickly unfold and read the section he/she might be interested in.
Gamestarts
Show
After clicking on a "NEW GAME" button in main menu, you are presented with several options to choose from. Some gamestarts are more difficult than others, in regards of the potency of the ship and amount of credits you are given at the beginning.

Several of the gamestarts go further than that - they contain a mini-plot which you can complete to get some extra rewards in form of potentially overtuned ships (overtuned ships have more engine tunings installed than allowed for that ship by default, making them fly faster than the intended maximum speed for that type).

From collector's perspective, the best gamestarts are:
  • Unholy Traitor rewards you with a Medusa Prototype as a starting ship. If you select this gamestart you can skip Duke's Buccaneers reputation completely, which is complete pain in the ass and arguably the worst corporation reputation of them all.
  • Tormented Teladi rewards you with a (potentially overtuned) Enhanced Kea. This will allow you to skip leveling NMMC reputation completely. However, you might feel inclined to not reverse engineer your one and only overtuned Enhanced Kea, in this case you might want to level NMMC reputation anyway.
  • Poisoned Paranid rewards you with potentialy overtuned Hyperion Vanguard and Advanced Perseus. Choosing this gamestart doesn't save you from having to grind Duke's and NMMC corporation reputations to the very top, however overtuned Hyperion Vanguard is a very popular player ship, beloved by many. While it is possible to capture a "wild" Hyperion Vanguard and overtune it by using an exploit, I find no fun in that.
Legit maxed Hyperion Vanguard
Show
If you like the idea to fly in an legitimately overtuned Hyperion Vanguard from Poisoned Paranid gamestart, here's a little present from me. This save game is created in vanilla 1.0.1 (or 1.2.1, read below) game, non-modified, no bonus pack either. As vanilla as it gets. You can use this save to obtain every possible ship in the game - Besides gamestart mission, nothing else is done.

How to use:
  • Backup your existing saves by making a copy of "Egosoft" folder inside of "My Documents" folder.
  • Open this url and download [TC 1.0.1] Poisoned Paranid 250.3 Hyperion Vanguard, no extra rudder.sav if you plan to play in patch previous to 1.2.1 to be able to get your own Federal Argon Shipyard, or otherwise grab [TC 1.2.1] poisoned paranid 250.3 Hyperion Vanguard, 2 extra rudder.sav, which contains extremely rare Hyperion Vanguard, with max speed and even overtuned rudder.
  • Put it inside your "My documents\Egosoft\X3TC\save" folder. The folder should be already there if you played X3TC before and saved at least 1 game.
  • The game uses names X01.sav to X13.sav for its thirtheen save slots - 01 to 10 are the regular ten save slots, while X11.sav to X13.sav are autosaves 1-3. If you have all 13 saves used, delete one of the files and rename your downloaded file to match the deleted file name. X11.sav (autosave 1, the oldest one) is probably the best option. Example.
  • In saved games menu the one you added should read something like this - Shore of Infinity, Tupmanckolanks...
  • Load and enjoy.
Please note that several of the gamestarts are not unlocked from the beginning and you need to either play different gamestarts until you meet the criteria to unlock the other gamestarts or use a registry editor to unlock them instantly.
SRST or Select Random Ship Type (optional read)
Show
In some situations, the game uses hardcoded ship types for certain scenarios. For example, Mahi Ma from PHQ plot will always spawn in a Enhanced Dolphin, and it is the only ship type you will see him flying.

However, it will be too tedious (and unnecesary) to hardcode every single ship type for every possible situation. This is where SRST script is used. What SRST does is simple. Other script might call it asking, for example "give me a random Boron M3", SRST will look up in its internally used ship table and provide one of the ships at random. What is important to know here, is that SRST only provides some basic ship types, not all of the ships in game. This is why when, for instance, you accept a mission "Defend a station from pirates" you will get a bunch of Falcons, Falcon Vanguards, Busters but never Advanced Ecplises or Blastclaw Prototypes - the latter are not included in the SRST look up table.

SRST includes an option to include some "plus" type ships (like M7M, M3+ and so on) in look up, but by default this option is off. This is why most missions won't ever spawn certain ships, but you will still be able to see them in other types of missions that use the "plus" option explicitly. For example, you can buy blueprints for Pirate Kestrel since "buy blueprints" mission explicitly asks SRST to provide "plus" classes aswell once you reach certain rank, but this ship won't ever appear in "Defend Station" mission which only uses basic ship types. Example.

Other funny detail is, to prevent script failure when a selected race doesn't have own ships from that class, SRST will provide a "similar" ship from a different race. For instance, there are no Yaki M6 to use, so when asked for one, SRST will give you a Pirate Centaur instead. You will also get a bunch of Argon M5 provided for pirate missions, even though they have their own "Pirate" versions of that ships. Examples: Yaki Shipyard offering Pirate Centaur blueprints, Boron pirate offering Argon Discoverer blueprints.

The ships that don't get spawned through SRST can be obtained in following ways:
  • Ship is hardcoded in one of the scenarios. This covers also Corporation Rewards. Many of such ships will have limited occurences throughout your game and most of them will be marked as *unique* or *limited* in the list below. Enhanced Dolphin mentioned above is one of such cases.
  • Ships spawned by Jobs.txt file. I'll describe the functionality of this file below. All of the different "Mineral Transporters", "High-Tech Traders" etc. are hardcoded in this file, and it includes many types not covered by SRST. Some of them will be marked as *rare*, for being pain in the ass to find.
OBS or Opponent Balancing System (optional read)
Show
OBS is another script widely used by the missions which involve combat, such as Sector Patrol and Defend Station, to put an example. OBS role is to create one or more enemy groups to fight you, adjusted to your "level". The functionality is based on a points system. The game checks pilot's fight rank and mission difficulty (even plot missions have implicit difficulty setting to them), and rates player's strength according to these two values. The higher your fight rank and mission difficulty are, the more points you get. During the next step, the game creates an enemy fleet consisting of as many ships as needed to match your "strength", measured before.

Since there are several variables involved, aswell as some random element to your point assignment, providing the full formula here would probably confuse you too much. Instead, I'll provide the list of the enemies you will face, sorted by "strength" (in OBS terms, anyway) - the stronger you are and the more difficult the mission - higher the chances of getting tougher enemies down the list.
  • M5 - 1 point
  • M4 - 7 points
  • M3 - 20 points
  • M8 - 40 points
  • M6 - 100 points
  • M7 - 220 points
  • M2 - 760 points
  • M1 - 950 points
Other classes don't appear at all. For example, if the game decides you're worth 200 points, it might generate 2x M6 to fight you, but since there is a random element to what ships you'll get you might also end up fighting a bunch of fighters and a single M6 (or even none). The only certain outcome here is that you won't get an M7 or higher - you'd need to improve your fight rank or aim for more difficult mission for that.

OBS works in combination with SRST, described above. The "plus" classes option is not used during the SRST call (read above), that is why you will only get some staple ships in your opponent group - don't expect any PX or LX to appear in your Xenon Invasion missions, for example.

OBS script has been substantially modified in 2.7. Before, OBS used to take into account the amount of fleet you had in the sector (doubling down on ships in 15km vicinity to you), as well as the strength of the ship you were personally flying. This lead to some hilarious results when accepting fight missions in sectors full of player owned capital ships. Also, M7 and M8 were not included among the allowed classes until this patch.

Glossary:
  • *artifact*: these ships were only obtainable in earlier patches, but were removed at some point.
  • *unique* or *limited*: you will have only one or very few opportunities to get that ship, so don't waste it!
  • *rare*: they are either of very limited supply (OTAS Notus Hauler), camouflage themselves by adopting different name (Teladi Falcon Prototype) or otherwise are especially tricky to obtain (Goner Aran). Nevertheless, if you miss an oportunity to grab one, there will be another one at some point.

This version is obsolete but still supported, check this post to find out more on the lite, macro independent, compatible with Open Office version.

Right now the spreadsheet does the following for you:
  • You can set filters to see only ships you are missing, only blueprints you are missing, ships which you own and can RE to get the blueprints and more, and sort the data in many ways, so you can get a better idea of what to aim for next, here's a screenie:

    [ external image ]
  • Most ships have hyperlinks to web resources explaining where/when/how to get them (especially rare/unique ships)
  • Check your statistics on how many ships you own out of total, something like this (my current collection):

    [ external image ]
  • *New* Your collection can be imported directly from the game into the spreadsheet using a script (provided below)
  • You can export your collection to a newer version of the spreadsheet within few clicks
  • When you find new or unconfirmed ways of obtaining ships, you can contribute to the community by sharing your discovery within just a few clicks with the help of the spreadsheet
  • *New* You can now create BBCode for any ship in the spreadsheet, colored by race (like in the first post in this thread) just within couple of clicks.
Upcoming features:
  • A "Suggest" button to get a suggestion of what ships to get next
You need Microsoft Excel 2007 (2010 compatibility not tested) with macros enabled to run the spreadsheet. You will find instructions on how to use inside.

In a bragging rights thread, Lelouch claims that 2 of the Yaki M7 types can be claimed in an early version vanilla.
Lelouch wrote:Yaki Kariudo Hauler & Yaki Akurei Hauler in vanilla (M7 class)

The ships themselves are not that impressive, but you have to finish the Hub and the HQ-Plot in Patch 1.3 or less.

Basically this means:
- no CAG / CLS (Bonuspack requires patch 2.1)
- 750.000 Wafers

P.S.: And yes, I'm allowed to brag. ;) Twice. I redid the Hub-Plot in order to capture a Boron Marlin Hauler. (M8 class, only available pre-1.3)

wow, that takes some dedication. I don't see myself redoing the Hub plot for any reason in the near future.

Well, it is mostly complete. There are more ships that I'm pretty sure can be bought used, via abandoned ship quest or blueprints but I don't include it until I see one myself. I provided at least one confirmed source for each obtainable ship though. Right now I'm jumping from sector to sector, looking for blueprints or used ship/abandoned ship missions and taking screenshots of that to provide a proof, for example the latest submissions are:

Teladi Buzzard Hauler: can be bought used
Teladi Vulture Hauler: can be bought used
Pirate Osprey: blueprints available at pirate bases
Pirate Buster Hauler: blueprints available at pirate bases
Teladi Buzzard: blueprints available

I'm planning to add a hyperlink on where to buy all the ships marked as obtainable (saving couple of clicks to the end user)

Thanks for the submission, The Marlin Hauler was already there but I had no info on yaki ships. Already updated the post, spreadsheet will be updated soon-ish.

Damn, I'm thinking of rolling back to get these ships now, to be honest.

Pirate Kestrel blueprints can also be bought. I got offered one from a
pirate station a while back.

For those with lead trigger fingers like me, easier than forcing it to bail.

Included, thanks. I tried to cap one myself but the pilot had 28 morale and just wouldn't surrender. Now I know where to look :)

Because I am the "collector type" I am finding this list very useful. Thank you for creating it!

I am wallowing in my newbidity, though, because where you say "*ship* can be disguised as *sensor contact*"... I have no idea how to find out exactly if said *sensor contact* is *rare ship on your list*. Simply doing "info" on it gives me the sensor contact name and the ID, and Betty gives her spiel, but ... how do I tell?

Well it's rather easy. Most ships have unique combinations of maximum speed/shields/laser generation/cargo bay etc. What you need is check their technical data for all "upgradeable to" values under ship's technical data and compare them with the values listed here or here

Sort the ships by maximum speed and if there are several matches check hull / max shields / cargo bay capacity for them.

EDIT: if you are using x3tc.ru site, Betty usually says which type of ship is that. You can type that word (for example Falcon) in the search box to compare only to other falcons which reduces the time needed to find a match.

Here's the info on that ships:
Marlin Hauler:

The last possible chance to acquire this ship is a Station Defend mission in a game running patch 1.2.1 or lower. In 1.3 they patched it, so that if a M8 is eligible for spawning it is replaced by an M6. (Carlos has gone through the script and confirmed/showed this behaviour).

Yaki Akurei Hauler / Kariudo Hauler spawn with 100% probability during the attack on the military outpost. They only spawn in 1.3 or less. (At least someone said so - I didn't try to complete the HQ-Plot in other patch versions.)
Many thanks for the info! I started playing in 1.2.1 today. One of the first ships I saw when I reached Omicron Lyrae was an OTAS Eurus mocking me with its unwillingness to surrender! :)

EDIT:described an actual cap of Marlin Hauler (screenshot included) in this post: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php? ... 63#3570463

EDIT 2: if you're trying to get both Yaki m7, it is possible to get two of the same ship during the mission instead of one of each. If it happens to you, you need to reload to some point prior to their spawn (save couple of times on the SQUASH and Ion mines part)

That Eurus (which is the only one in the vanilla universe) along with the fighters it's with will never bail. EVER.

Personally the Eurus should have been the first reward ship from OTAS rather than the Solano (which is buyable).

But the Eurus is a pretty fun ship to fly. :D

Got a Marlin Hauler to spawn in my 1.2.1 game, but after 20 reloads didn't manage to get him to bail. He got 22 morale and my combat rank is fighter chief

EDIT: after reading somewhere that it's important that my ship hull+shield+laser energy must be higher than the ship I try to capture, I used SETA repair trick on my 57% Skate Prototype, as a last option before giving up and it actually bailed on that one!

bailed at 80% even kept the Ion Disruptor he had:

Apparently, Boron Enhanced Dolphin is only obtainable in patch 1.3 or later. I started Hub quest in version 1.2.1, picked up Mahi Ma but no option to claim the Dolphin appreared. I patched my game to 1.3 and was able to claim Dolphin after reloading to some point prior to picking Mahi Ma.

The ship used to be invincible in early patches but when patched to 2.0 and beyond it will become vulnerable and, thus, reverse engineerable.

The info on the part of the plot where you get the ship here

the Kha'ak Corvette has a description of not obtainable anymore (used to be capturable in previous versions) mostly because of these two posts I read while first searching info for this thread:

http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php? ... 31#2635731
http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php? ... 05#2590705

(something about a script error which allowed m6+ ships to bail in certain missions but was patched early on)

However, now I'm trying to collect the ships removed in early patches, and upon looking up the forum I found other posts stating that they were never obtainable.

Searching forum for 2+ year old posts is kinda difficult, so if any player who did research on this matter wants to help to define it as "not obtainable in any version vanilla, period" or otherwise "was obtainable in x.xx during yyy mission if zzz happened", please reply.

Another rare ship is the "Pirate High-Tech Trader", only seen one by chance as it cruised thru my Hub a week ago. Tried to cap it but it didn't give-in. I have pics but can't get to my game pc for the next few weeks (to much travelling lately). As soon as I can I will upload the pics.

Edit: It could be a M4 or M3.
