X-SUPERBOX: What is this all about and what should it contain?

Post by Deleted User »

Hello X-Space-pilots!

As you may have noticed EGOSOFT is planning to release a Superbox containing all the X-series titles along with lots of content made by fans of the series. Before I start listing all the content we'd like to see in this box, let me describe the purpose of the box and why we thought it was a good idea to publish it.

First of all I should explain that "Superbox" is more of a working title for this unofficial project than a fixed name. We haven't decided yet what name we will give it; as soon as we have made a decision you will be the first to know!

As you probably know, the 10-year story of the X-series came to a conclusion with X3: Terran Conflict. Over the years many fans of the series have come to these forums and many are still here in the community. They are sure to remember the humble beginnings of this story with Kyle William Brennan and his ship, the X-perimental. In X-Beyond the Frontier he lost contact with Earth as a result of a terrible accident involving his jumpdrive and had to fight against massive threats. In X-Tension he recovered a lost prototype ship belonging to the Paranid. In X2: The Threat and X3: Reunion his son, Julian Brennan, followed his footsteps and fought against more dangerous threats than his father could have ever done. In doing so he rescued millions of people in Omicron Lyrae and even made it possible to reconnect the X-Universe with the Sol system. In X3: Terran Conflict you had to maintain peace while the Kha'ak and the Xenon, the descendants of the Terraformers, continued to threaten not only the people of the X-Universe, but also the humans of the Sol system and of course you! This was the only way to grant both sides a peaceful future together.

All the games mentioned above will be in this special box, that much is for sure! But the games of the X-series also motivated many people to create expansions, write scripts, fan-fiction and many other things. To make this superbox worthy of the name, we are calling upon our trusted community to make suggestions of possible fan-made content to go into the box. The potential variety of the content is huge, so don't be hesitant when making your suggestions. This box shouldn't just be something from EGOSOFT for fans, but by fans for fans. You wrote many useful guides, tutorials and HowTo's that we'd also like to add to the content of the superbox. Tell us what you want to see in this box and we'll do our best to add it.

To keep an overview of the collected content we've decided to separate this request into five threads. The content we want is so huge that it would be easy to lose track if we collected it all in one thread.

So, we are separating the subject areas into the following categories:
  • X3: Terran Conflict - Scripts & Modding Forum

Here we will collect the following things:
    • Scripts
      Mods
      Scripting and Modding tutorials
      AL-Plug-ins
      MD-Missions
      MD-Tutorials
      Plug-ins & Tools
Ships (need to be installable with Cycrow's Ship Installer)
Please note that any scripts you suggest need to have an interface, so that they don't need to be executed via the Script Editor.
  • X-Universe

Here we are going to collect:
    • Tutorials, Guides, Tips, Tricks, HowTo's
      Sector maps
      Savegames
      Screenshots (i.e. as loadscreens)

We will look through all of this content and decide which to put into the box. We ask you to always post a link to the content you want us to include so that we don't have to spend too much time searching for it.
  • X3: Reunion - Scripts & Modding Forum

    Here we are collecting:
    • Scripts
      Mods
      Scripting and Modding tutorials
      AL-Plug-ins
      MD-Missions
      MD-Tutorials
      Plug-ins & Tools
Ships (need to be installable with Cycrow's Ship Installer)
Please note that any scripts you suggest need to have an interface, so that they don't need to be executed via the Script Editor.
  • X2: The Threat - Scripts & Modding Forum

    Here we will collect:
    • Scripts
      Mods
      Scripting and Modding tutorials
      Plug-ins & Tools
      AL-Plug-ins
Please note that any scripts you suggest need to have an interface, so that they don't need to be executed via the Script Editor.
  • Creative Universe

    Here we are collecting:
    • Fan-fiction
      Wallpapers
      Music
Regarding music titles, these must be fan-made rather than commercially released tracks that require licensing, and must also not already have been used in any of the games. Wallpapers should have X as a theme and not your favourite cars; the same goes for fan-fiction. Since we know your creativity knows no limits, anything not listed here is also allowed as long as it relates to X.
As you can see the box is turning into a really big project. EGOSOFT isn't just going to ask you for content, but will also be adding its own materials that will definitely throw you out of your pilot's seat! We want this superbox to be as big as possible so we are asking for your help in collecting good, helpful materials, and are looking forward to your suggestions.

Enjoy!

I'd like to contribute this tutorial. (The Very Basics)
http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=226434

It's already in PDF form. The only thing I still have to do are some small updates.

How much time do we have?

I need to clean up a few things in the savegame manager (cosmetic for the most part, and add more tooltips), and make it so I don't need seperate windows 7 builds, but after then it'll be ready for inclusion.

Might I suggest if you are going to add ship files then you also include some updated code or script which AUTOMATICALLY allows these new ships to be bought at various shipyards, and ALSO other races use these new ships like normal.

At least make this an option. Option 1) Available in various shipyards. Option 2) Available/used by various races.

I think you should try to make this super pack reasonably easy to use if you're going to include scripts and mods.

For example, making sure script editor is turned on by default.

Also some kind of booklet or pdf with guides on the scripts/mods and keys or settings.

I think that the game should have a hidden shipyard/EQ dock or a special mission that once completed you can "buy" a mod or modded ship from the hidden shipyard, something like OTAS HQ that only sells player modded ships, wares, stations etc. That way you can buy XTM or Star Wars ships with your hard-earned Teladi creditssss 8) . Maybe you could even make the Script Editor and Galaxy Editor "buyable" at an EQ dock for a couple million.

Just an idea  .

Guys, this isn't a thread for ideas what Egosoft should pack in there but a thread to collect fan-made things for inclusion into the box. ;)

I hope this is the right place to suggest something that would be great to have in the superbox? ;)

Well then... I suggest Gazz's most excellent Complex Cleaner Mod :-

http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php? ... ex+cleaner

I personally won't restart a X3:TC game without it. Its ideal for all those guys who love to build a supporting empire (but do not want to deal with the tedium of manually arranging things spatially (and creating an unsightly mess in the process), and for those who want better framerates. It also looks cleaner imho (and I love the monster Factory containers!)

I'm building billion credit complexes all over the X-universe now, thanks to this mod. :D

Lucike's script collection for Terran Conflict should be in there - seriously.

And Cycrow's Improved Boarding script.

I think those are the "must haves" - I'm sure there's a tonne of "would likes" ;)

The Merge Mod v2.01 is now out as a Beta, and contains complex cleaner.

At this point, while merging Transend II is possible, its unlikely to happen for the superbox, as its too new. And from what I hear of it, the merge mod would disppear inside transend without a ripple. :)

Minimal hud is something that should be included in the superbox, but as a standalone patch. Its not something that should be included in the merge mod. Likewise cockpit overlays.

Unless I misunderstand, I'm not sure why Transcend wouldn't go into this effort.

Transcend seems to qualify from what I can tell. It definitely is a mod, and I don't see any size constraints mentioned. Transcend is under 300 meg file size - which given DVD capacity shouldn't make too much of a dent.

The main things I want to know are:

1. Who is responsible for superbox decisions? In other words, who decides what goes in and what stays out?

2. Are there size constraints?

3. What does being "too new" have to do with anything as long as the mod is relatively stable - which according to players it is. Besides, Transcend has been out for several years already.

Regardless of decision, I would like to know as soon as possible whether or not to expand any further energy in this endevour.

Thanks

So... isn't anyone else going to add to this? Big Superbox thing.. like 15 replies? With all the content out there? I think its likely late on the go for submissions; but I have a few, and it seems we're only 4 weeks in of 8.

Dave Toomes(Cryogenesis) 3D Model Viewer
Cycrow's Ship Installer/Plugin Manager - pretty much a given
Observes Material Editor
Various Community Mod's that have been released(BSG, Transcend, etc...)
Community released ships for Ship Installer - plenty out there
Community released Scripts - more of those all the time

Here's what we need:
  • Post of scripts ranked according to usefulness, bug free or smooth application, unique interest, and interface management
  • Post of community developed ships for use with Cycrow's Ship Installer ranked for quality of design, installability, overall capability, and origin, or originality
  • Post of Mods ranked by magnitude of the undertaking, content and design, quality of scripting and modifications, and level of personal enjoyment
  • Post of Tools found useful for exploring the game content and developing mod's, scripts, ships, etc.. for the game; ranked for ease of use, overall utility, and effort undertaken for the communities benefit by the tools developer - doubleshadow's X2/X3 Modding Tools are a good example
come on people; lets get those ideas rolling in :D

I posted a complete list of details as requestd by Cycrow in a PM. I suspect its being collated with others. So there may be more happening about it, it just hasnt been made visible as yet.

To be honest I'm suprised ES didn't just lift all scripts/mods as is feasible. As according to the EULA they effectively own all 3rd party developments made for X3TC. So I think its highly courteous that they have introduced a voluntary system.

I'm suspecting the collection needs feedback from the developers to ascertain current support levels etc. Which may be why there is a lull in collecting all those details dependant on the grace period for replies and the fact its the holiday season.

All the above is speculative reasoning, but suffice to say from personal experience more is happening about it that just hasnt be made known as yet.

Hi, id just like to confirm some things.

as far as the scripts and mods go for the SuperBox, the descision is down to me.

And there are not size constraits.

However, what was being talk about with Transcend is the Merge Box, this is one of many mods that will be in the SuperBox, the MergeMod is mainly merging the small mods together that u otherwise wouldn't be able to run together into a single mod. Bigger mods like Transcend will be seperate, but still included.

The manager for the superbox will allow users to select which mod they wish to use so its not going to be just 1 mod available, you will have a choise between lots.

xTemon, the thread is more for ideas than whats actually going into the superbox, there are many things already added, and many scripts and mods have also been included
