X-SUPERBOX: What is this all about and what should it contain?

Post by Deleted User »

Hello X-Space-pilots!

As you may have noticed EGOSOFT is planning to release a Superbox containing all the X-series titles along with lots of content made by fans of the series. Before I start listing all the content we'd like to see in this box, let me describe the purpose of the box and why we thought it was a good idea to publish it.

First of all I should explain that "Superbox" is more of a working title for this unofficial project than a fixed name. We haven't decided yet what name we will give it; as soon as we have made a decision you will be the first to know!

As you probably know, the 10-year story of the X-series came to a conclusion with X3: Terran Conflict. Over the years many fans of the series have come to these forums and many are still here in the community. They are sure to remember the humble beginnings of this story with Kyle William Brennan and his ship, the X-perimental. In X-Beyond the Frontier he lost contact with Earth as a result of a terrible accident involving his jumpdrive and had to fight against massive threats. In X-Tension he recovered a lost prototype ship belonging to the Paranid. In X2: The Threat and X3: Reunion his son, Julian Brennan, followed his footsteps and fought against more dangerous threats than his father could have ever done. In doing so he rescued millions of people in Omicron Lyrae and even made it possible to reconnect the X-Universe with the Sol system. In X3: Terran Conflict you had to maintain peace while the Kha'ak and the Xenon, the descendants of the Terraformers, continued to threaten not only the people of the X-Universe, but also the humans of the Sol system and of course you! This was the only way to grant both sides a peaceful future together.

All the games mentioned above will be in this special box, that much is for sure! But the games of the X-series also motivated many people to create expansions, write scripts, fan-fiction and many other things. To make this superbox worthy of the name, we are calling upon our trusted community to make suggestions of possible fan-made content to go into the box. The potential variety of the content is huge, so don't be hesitant when making your suggestions. This box shouldn't just be something from EGOSOFT for fans, but by fans for fans. You wrote many useful guides, tutorials and HowTo's that we'd also like to add to the content of the superbox. Tell us what you want to see in this box and we'll do our best to add it.

To keep an overview of the collected content we've decided to separate this request into five threads. The content we want is so huge that it would be easy to lose track if we collected it all in one thread.

So, we are separating the subject areas into the following categories:
  • X-Universe

Here we are going to collect:

We will look through all of this content and decide which to put into the box. We ask you to always post a link to the content you want us to include so that we don't have to spend too much time searching for it.
  • X3: Terran Conflict - Scripts & Modding Forum

Here we will collect the following things:
    • Scripts
      Mods
      Scripting and Modding tutorials
      AL-Plug-ins
      MD-Missions
      MD-Tutorials
      Plug-ins & Tools
Ships (need to be installable with Cycrow's Ship Installer)
Please note that any scripts you suggest need to have an interface, so that they don't need to be executed via the Script Editor.
  • X3: Reunion - Scripts & Modding Forum

    Here we are collecting:
    • Scripts
      Mods
      Scripting and Modding tutorials
      AL-Plug-ins
      MD-Missions
      MD-Tutorials
      Plug-ins & Tools
Ships (need to be installable with Cycrow's Ship Installer)
Please note that any scripts you suggest need to have an interface, so that they don't need to be executed via the Script Editor.
  • X2: The Threat - Scripts & Modding Forum

    Here we will collect:
    • Scripts
      Mods
      Scripting and Modding tutorials
      Plug-ins & Tools
      AL-Plug-ins
Please note that any scripts you suggest need to have an interface, so that they don't need to be executed via the Script Editor.
  • Creative Universe

    Here we are collecting:
    • Fan-fiction
      Wallpapers
      Music
Regarding music titles, these must be fan-made rather than commercially released tracks that require licensing, and must also not already have been used in any of the games. Wallpapers should have X as a theme and not your favourite cars; the same goes for fan-fiction. Since we know your creativity knows no limits, anything not listed here is also allowed as long as it relates to X.
As you can see the box is turning into a really big project. EGOSOFT isn't just going to ask you for content, but will also be adding its own materials that will definitely throw you out of your pilot's seat! We want this superbox to be as big as possible so we are asking for your help in collecting good, helpful materials, and are looking forward to your suggestions.

Enjoy!

It's great to see this sticky up in this forum now - I've been following it in TC S&M and I'd encourage everyone to put their thoughts and ideas down, after all how many times do the end users get to have so much say in what the end product is? :D

*EDIT*

I'd like to see it called the A-Z of X :)

I would think that the Xtreme version would be an appropriate name.

Thirded.

Some really nice, well done, player made sector maps for each version of the game would be a really nice thing to include.

Now I realise that my original hand drawn X:BTF map isn't quite up to scratch...

This is just a personal opinion. I like the Power Plants and the Perseus shot. I would like the Terran shot except that there shouldn't be asteroids in the Jupiter Sector right? ;-) As for the HUB, the X2 Titan doesn't look to bad, but it still makes me wonder.

Is this release going to be German-Only or will I be able to pick it up / get an English language version in the UK?

I really like the minimalist aesthetic in this shot I took :

It was never planned to make this box a German only product, so you will see it in the stores in the UK sooner or later.

Yes, and i hope that this box will be some time here on egosoft shop to buy. Not like X3: terran conflict ony 2-3 weeks... You can now only to buy
this game on steam. I hate this steam. It is not customer friendly.
You have only 5 time activation per game. And i change my pc 2 times on year, at least graphic card. I want to buy a boxed version of the game,
not some download without box, manual and other things.
And than you ask people to noty copy the games. The game from steam is like any pirate version only it is legal. And we must pay 40$ for this.
Yeah right. I want to buy this terran conflict and i am ready to pay 60$ for
boxed version, because the game is good, big, and you have 3 years to play. So i think that this "SUPERBOX" will need to be only a boxed version of the game. After all is a legendary pack and acummulative work over 10 years and dont diserve to be some download and remove this copy protection from it. Put some serial keys.

Put this box on preorder here on egosoft shop.

P.S. I want to see first 3 x games in terran conflict engine if is posibile.
I will be happy with mod to play. My pc won't run first 2 x games.
P.S. 2. Make online version to. And you will rock not eve. I hate eve. Is boring.

THANKS!!1

Each activation used resets after a while, not too long, a month or so. Then it is available once more. It's just not a problem.

Tsar_of_Cows' X3:R Profit Guild Guide to Opportunities for Profitssss was very helpful for a budding trader like myself.

LordSuch's Sector Planner was awesome for getting the quickest/highest return-for-investment on stations I ever found, and as it could be re-run as and when the economy shifted as a result of your efforts, it was much more useful than the threads that simply told you where a good place to start was. Homepage here.

There may have been others... I tend to forget, I'm not a frequent visitor of the XU forum. I'll post here if I stumble across them again.

I would hope that this "Superbox" would be available in the US as a boxed version (as is Reunion and Terran Conflict).

X-Treme is a good name, I'd also suggest X-Universe. Either would be acceptable, and descriptive.

Xenon-Slayer: Jupiter has 63 moons. Some of them (including the Galilean Moons) others are slightly more than lumps of rock. The Asteroid is at least fitting.

Moons of Jupiter

Also, I'd like at least one of Nuclear Slug's descriptive Stories included. THey really capture the essence of the game, I think...

I fail to understand why dont Ego include in the pack a document/pdf or something telling the entire x hystory, from the birth of the Old Ones till TC. Or at least include the X timeline found on Argonopedia.
ive seen many new x players that do not understand the story, the xenon, the argon, whats with the gates, how humans got to Aplha Centauri in the first place. And thats because they dont know the full story unless they find the Argonopedia site.

Bountyhunter - you mean to tell me that not only do you know the final contents of this pack, and despite being able to travel to the future, you don't know if they'll be for sale in America?

Seriously though I'm sure that this will not be the case. If you read the Terran Conflict manual and watch the intro cut scene you have all the info you need.

I miss the days of X:BTF when you didn't have a clue, and it was intentional! You weren't supposed to know what was going on! You were lost and stranded in space, just like Kyle, now that's what I call immersion.

Now unfortunately we're playing characters who should have a clue and therefore don't need things explained to them, so we need to have this stuff infodumped on us via an intro (who was that voice actor from the intro and trailers for Terran Conflict, and indeed the Terran stations?) or in the manual or whatever. Though I'm not entirely sure that detailed knowledge of the entire X-Universe prior to entering it is entirely necessary.

But yea. If you read the various manuals it's all there. I'm not sure about reunion because my copy only came with an electronic manual and I hate electronic manuals with extreme prejudice, but X:BTF, X2:The Threat and X3:Terran Conflict all came with manuals with appropriate amounts of explanation. I'm sure that this box will have similar.

I don't know how big a market the X-Games have in America; I've always had the impression that X's fanbase was Euro-centric. I'm sure if it's economically viable then Egosoft will endeavour to sell it there.

What? Did i mention anithing about America? Im not even from america, im from Europe. What does america have to do with what i said? You got some issues there my friend...

Anyways, the intro? What does the intro tell you? Xenon being an AI created by humans that infest the galaxy and now they return? What about the time when the earth gate randomly locked to random points in the galaxy in 2041. Wich lead scientists to believe that there is an advanced race out there that also built gates. And what about the Boron campaign? What about many other important details? I allready know most of the whole story but i was reffering to NEW x players. If you asked them why the Argon are named ARGON they wouldnt know. Because neither the manual nor the INTRO said anything about it.
