Post all the short and simple questions (not covered by existing threads) about scripting, modding, and MD in X3 Terran Conflict here. This is second part of the discussion. The previous part can be found here.


There is a separate thread: "What provides/causes feature/bug foo?" for collecting that subset of questions and answers.

There is a separate thread: What S&M are recommended/"must have"? for collecting that subset of questions and answers into one convenient spot.

I got a pretty stupid question. If I put custom scripts in a fake-patch /scripts folder will they function as intended (I know that I can't edit them), and same question for movies in /mov?

IIRC, scripts are never in cat/dat.

You're probably better off asking in the Scripts forum. I'm pretty sure there are some existing sound mods, and copyright issues are discussed on occasion.
Well, I've used the unholy search tool and found no sound editing mods so far.

So does anyone actually know the copyright details?

Vanderbilt's mod in [url=http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=216690]TC Download Library[/url] should list what music file plays in which sector, and [url=http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=216693]TC Tutorials[/url] has couple links to similar "how to edit galaxy to play different music tracks".

So I assume as long as it's a 'mod' as such, it's allowed as it follows the same rules?

I don't like assumption on legal matters...

Thank you for your reply, so it's 100% that /scripts cannot be in .cat/.dat because of game engine limitation?

Scripts just aren't Cat/Dat files.

Just 2 questions:

-What about: "Launch Delay" in the TBullets by opening it in the X3 Editor 2?

-Is there a way to port ships from X3R to X3 TC, a tutorial? (Not in xsp format, in a raw Cat/dat along multiple other stuff: find the good texture/scene and so on)

Sorry for double posting, but this is a new question.

Q. Which script is responsible for re-spawn of asteroid debris? I been looking around, but can't seem to find it. Thank you in advance.

I doubt it is a script. Probably hardcoded.

With ships, the game engine looks at Jobs file to maintain the number of ships. But since the rocks do not "die", I bet that they have their own re-appearance routine beyond our reach.

I might be mistaken, but I vaguely remember Gazz writing that you could turn off asteroid respawn by using the command <RefObj> -> disable ship rebuild, with <RefObj> being the asteroid of choice.

But I'm not sure, so maybe Gazz will clarify things or you simply try it out.

A handful of mods and scripts aren't listed there but the majority are. For the ones not listed you'd need use google search site like this:

replace the word mods with whatever your searching for.

First, there are no "quick questions". Or should all these

threads be merged on the grounds that threads with same title discuss the same topic? :P

The [url=http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=216690]TC Download Library[/url] does list many scripts and mods, but for reason or another some authors have not submitted their work into that index. Unfortunately.

The german X3TC S&M forum has similar index, and some of their scripts might have english text in them too, so no extra work required.

I'd like to ask a question :
I've found a ship on a website I'd like to add to the game,
I think it's an .xsp file, but the link brings up a page with lots of weird text

That looks like binary content. Try "Save link as" and see if the PluginManager thinks the file is a valid xsp.
