Well, don't tell anyone that I said this, but I think you need a "bootleg" .cat with just your new tracks. Don't link it here on the forum but, you know... just offer it in dark alleys or the VIP room.Litcube wrote:Dudes, wouldn't it be lame to release it without sound tracks?
Release the mod with vanilla tracks, or Peanutcat's. That will avoid any copyright issues.
To be fair, anyone who actually *cares* much about their music has either already added their own tracks or they do what Jack does (turn down the in-game Music volume and play your own music from another device).

Not really, I play a soundtrack of Rammstein, FFDP, Disturbed, when I play X3. I almost always turn off the music when I play games.Litcube wrote:Dudes, wouldn't it be lame to release it without sound tracks?
I would say it would be better to release it without music, so as not to infuriate anyone out there who may own the music.

I'm keeping a close eye here for it's release, so you can add another player whose looking forward to it.
One thing you could try if copywrite is an issue is as has been said to offer a complete download of the mod on another site and maybe just offer a non soundtrack one here.
i know it'd be nice to release it with everything added but even though you're not making money on it you may still be harrassed due to copywrite, which is a bummer.

Copyright issue doesn't go away just by hosting on an 'unofficial' site.Argonaught. wrote:One thing you could try if copywrite is an issue is as has been said to offer a complete download of the mod on another site and maybe just offer a non soundtrack one here.
If someone is going to sue over copyright infringement they're not going to care where it is being hosted...

Yes I know, I'm talking about avoiding the complaints by linking it here.dillpickle wrote:Copyright issue doesn't go away just by hosting on an 'unofficial' site.Argonaught. wrote:One thing you could try if copywrite is an issue is as has been said to offer a complete download of the mod on another site and maybe just offer a non soundtrack one here.

ps: I'm not advocating infringing copyright, or promoting it, but we'd be seriously stupid to deny it happens, and it happens in every game that uses copyrighted stuff in mods. After all, no one makes money from mods that I know off, even when Ego does the taking the original mod maker sees no money.

I don't deny it happens... At the end of the day it comes down to whether Litcube wants to take a chance on releasing with copyright music.Argonaught. wrote:ps: I'm not advocating infringing copyright, or promoting it, but we'd be seriously stupid to deny it happens.
One way round it would be to release with default/no music and a list of 'recommended' tracks for sector music. Where/how the end user acquires said tracks is then their responsibility...
Even though the mod maker makes no money, Egosoft still get written permission to use them before releasing to the public.Argonaught. wrote:After all, no one makes money from mods that I know off, even when Ego does the taking the original mod maker sees no money.

Speaking (hopefully) for those who can only consume/observe not assist I think dillpickle's "One way round it would be to release with default/no music and a list of 'recommended' tracks for sector music. So, I figured it would be appropriate to tell you guys who is doing all the music stuff, so, well, it's me. I'm finding (hopefully) appropriate music for as many sectors as I can.
Thankfully several of EVE Online's old soundtracks are Creative Commons, so I'm gonna use those that I am sure about (which is only about 12 out of the 90 or so they have). If you have any suggestions as to a song, I'll check it out, make sure it's CC licensed, then if I find an appropriate place, I'll put in.
Sadly this is gonna take me some time to find some variety, because of school. So anything you guys can do to help would be awesome.

Please remove all XTC ships that are not featured in AP or the community addon. Especially the ships from XTM. The author, Mox, prohibited use of his models in any other mod apart from xtc before leaving. Please respect that decision.
However, you have my permission to use my orbital missile platform models that i also allowed jack to use for XTL, if he still has them, because i dont.

Perhaps an alternative to locking the thread would be to replace the models with suitable substitutes? There are many models available for general use.
If you need help with doing the work, then perhaps some player(s) might pitch in with replacing the required models? There are many players who already know how to modify TShips to point to a different model and scene.
