I'm a fairly new player to X3TC and I've run into a confusing/frustrating problem. A hostile Argon Military Cerberus has shown up in Omicron Lyrae with a fleet of fighters and I can not figure out why or what to do about it. I have never purposely attacked any Argons, absolutely no other Argons are hostile towards me, and my reputation with them is Argon Hero of the Federation. If I talk to the ship I have the option to say "Accidental weapons fire...." which works and he goes friendly, but after 45-90 seconds he goes hostile again, every time. I don't think I can destroy him in my single M3, and more importantly, I don't really want to, so is there any way to make peace with this guy?
Any info on how this happened or how to resolved it would be much appreciated.

Answer
Cainmosni, sometimes it is an illegal station like Spacefuel or Spaceweed in Argon territory. Sometimes it is an accidental weapons fire in another sector.
Sometimes they just need to attack you to finish an assignment, so put another Satellite closeby and jump out. That might be a cheap way to solve it. It seems stupid, but I've seen it work.
I've even seen it when you killed or bailed a pirate they were after, so they are mad at you.
Sometimes I go back through my saves to find that ship in his previous sectors, then I scan him to see where he is going, where he is based, what his assignment is.
Good Luck on this one!

I had this same exact problem last year when i first started playing my current game...i could be wrong though..but what i found out to be the solution is...dont have any of your stations be open for trade with other races.....i had some stations set to "trade with other races" set to yes...kept noticing a random red Argon M6/m7 and my rep go mysteriously down...i could be wrong like i said, but it fixed what ever issue i had...(i havent had any illegal factories in argon space),,,just a thought

The cause of this in my case was that I had sector traders active in sectors such as Herrons Nebula, where the sector trader would trade space fuel and get caught.
If you have capped any pirate/yaki ships it's always wise to check the cargo in case there is also space fuel/weed on board. If any ships you cap are scanned on their way somewhere carrying space fuel/weed you'll be flagged as a pirate by some forces.
Make sure all your ships are free from illegal stuff, then try saying sorry to the cerberus.

My bet is that you've capped some fighters from a Defend Station mission recently.
Am I right?

Had this exact thing last month.
I had a factory producing Ion mines in an argon sector, dealt with the cerberus but then a collossus and two titans turned up. Had to leave the sector and let them destroy the ion mine fabs and they then went away leaving the rest of the factories intact.
Took me bloody ages to link them all up again

Turns out it was hunting a couple of Xenon N's I had captured a while back in a big invasion mission. Sent them out to meet him and he went friendly as soon as they were destroyed. Thank you very much for all the advice, helped me figure it out.
On a related note, since several of you also mentioned illegal wares also causing this problem: Is there a way to prevent my sector traders from dealing in illegal wares?
(oh, and I really did search the forums before making the post, just wasn't looking for the right thing, sorry)

If sector traders get caught trading in illegal wares, they'll dump them and go on their way. I've never paid close enough attention to tell if there's a rep penalty involved, but if there is it's probably nowhere near as bad as getting scanned with illegal wares on your playership.
