i really need to get this hub plot completed so i can try this boarding stuff. every time i read these threads, i get all excited to do it, but something always pull me away from doing it.
it seems so hard and the few times i've done it (for the plot missions that require it), i usually end up screwing it all up. i guess the only way to master it is to keep doing it. i didn't even know it was possible to board a TL class ship. that must be fun to watch. for something that large, how many marines do you all recommend? is 10 enough?

If you want to board a TL, I suggest buying/capturing an M7M first. Boarding capital ships via spacewalk is a huge pain as it's excessively difficult to position properly and chances are your marines will reach the ship in 2s and 3s. That will lead to a lot of hull cutting failures and a lot of marines getting slaughtered in the first deck.
I've taken down M7Ms with no internal defenses with 10 marines - they tend to be pretty helpless against boarders. After that, you want to send 20 in against M7/M2/M1/TL class ships. More marines equals fewer casualties, and you want as many getting fighting experience as you can.

Last night I went to build yaki complex and I diverted several of my TLs to serve as weapon storages, so I was in shortage, I took my cobra to Omicron lyrae and stole two mammoths in 10 minutes. BTW i have 10 TLs, all boarded ; ) It's that easy, really. I suggest you begin by doing some reading, here:

the first ships i started boarding were TS(for the life of me i cant remember the name)....had some losses due to low fight skills...then after a while i got brave and went to Akumas...got a hand full...then Brigantines, also now have a hand full, have one Galleon(havent had any luck after that) one Hoshi, One Aggie(took an hour or so)the Shuri(had some losses on that one and took me about 25 min) and the Massive Aran(lucky)
I tried Xenon Ks n Js...but after an hour and 50 reloads..i quit...even had two Minotaurs launching a total of 21 marines annnnd no joy...all died after deck 3....in the end..haviing a sikoros WOULD be nice...

That "illustrated guide to boarding a Boreas using an M7M" is how I learned to cap, and MAN is it easy. I suck at multitasking but once you get it down (I managed after the 3rd or so try) it's easy money selling capped yaki m2s. Sometimes you even get 20+ Cap guns in them. I would definately suggest for everyone wanting to do boarding to save up for a M7M and do it the easy way.
I would suggest though that you get a decebt sized flail and hammer complex going but that you can build by selling your first 2 m2's

It's the difference between being in combat and having a nice break and playing Magic:TG (or some other TCGs).

Boarding only becomes 'easy' after you've done it a bit and developed the skills. Don't expect miracles, but if you have patience, it will become much easier the more you do it. Good luck!NavyAICS wrote:deca.death - thanks for the links. i'll take a break from the game and do some light reading. once my hub plot is complete, i really want to try this boarding stuff.

Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

All my 65 marines are 5 star in trainable skills now.
I just need to use them to get their fighting skills up, currently some are very low, but most are above 50. Mixed teams will make them all 100 fighting heros, than I'll start a new batch. Won't stop til I have a full battalion.
Just for the fun of it.
My biggest catch so far is a titan. Now he guards my Space Fuel complex from pirate vermin.
Once you know the ropes, it's almost like cheating. I wish they had at least their own marines, maybe it's my fight rank, but so far I haven't come across a ship that'd carry skilled marines on board.
