Excessive Load Times

What is the issue with the excessive game loading times? I know my PC is OK. I have version 1.2 of the program. I load a previous game, or just log on and start a previous game and I sit for several minutes before the game comes up.

Anybody else notice this? Anything being done if this is an issue. EVERY other game I have on my PC loads up reasonably well, and I would have expected this game to load up within a reasonable time also.

terran conflict does seem to load much longer than reunion did, but it doesn't take quite as long as 2 minutes for me.

Had the same problem until I turned off ffdshow.

I'm not absolutely sure that was the reason as I also did reinstall the game and at the end when asked if I wanted to install the audio file from the dvd (older than the one on computer) I choose to use the one on the dvd.
Could be what fixed it but I still think turning off ffdshow is the best bet.

Its worth checking that the data files aren't too fragmented either, a simple defrag should sort this out. When I first downloaded the game from steam I found my files in over 1000 fragments (gotta love my c: drive )

How much RAM does your PC have? X3:Reunion took 2 minutes to load Argon Prime for me back when I only had 512Mb in the PC... chopped that down to 10-15 seconds or so when I bumped it up to 1Gb.

Current PC (year old laptop) loads even the heaviest of sectors in under 5 seconds so its certainly not a game "feature" to take that long loading anything. Firing the game up and loading a save game is under a minute... somewhere around the 30-40 seconds mark.

Ahah, maybe that's why i can kick back and drink a cold one while waiting for it to load...

Thanks for the info, i will see whether its enabled and disable it if it is, as well as doing some general maintenance to see if i can squeeze out more then 30 fps with occasional stutters.

I have 'bit defender' antivirus, I have to turn it off when I play the game, otherwise it takes around 20 minutes to load the game....

there's bound to be some delay on initial load-up - it uses over 7Gig of HD space..
there's one heck of lot of data streaming into the PC when X3:TC starts up

- I'd even leave it for a minute or two after you get to the load save screen

- just to be sure, Ripley - just to be sure..

really? mine is fast.
No more than 10 seconds between sectors, and and bout 30 seconds first load

I know this might seem really obvious, but I had very long load times at first. Then I ran defrag (well, Diskeeper) and the problem went away. Always worth a go.
