Rating system and forum update

Post by BurnIt! »

Hi all,

as you can see, we have added a rating system to the forum. Please find more information here: http://www.egosoft.com/x2/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1391

The filtersetting (all/on topic only/off topic only) is now passed onto other pages of the forum, so if you click on a different page you don't have to set the filter again. The number of pages shown also depends on the filter setting.

The link to klarix' photo album of the forums has been added to the topic overview (right above the page numbers).
Whether you are directed to the english or the german album depends on the forum you are browsing (english forum -> english album)

This is a protection system to avoid rate flaming. Otherwise someone who doesn't like another person could negativly rate the posts of that specific user thus falsifying the rank.
And it also helps to prevent e.g. clan members from voting each other up.

As said before, the purpose of this rating system is to reward the quality poster among us.

That deserves a big thumbs up (why am I being so generous now I can finally give my opinion?....)

I'm sure after a few early days with wild ratings, it will settle down, and then really come into it's own once X2 is released (HINT HINT)

Yes indeed.

It still has the ability to be abused, but personally this bothers me not. We all have our forum friends/enemies, I expect to be hounded by certain peop, not so by others. Personally, I think it will prove interesting.

But at the moment, it is a novelty, so loads of us will be playing with it for a while. So yes you are right, it will settle down.

Does this mean, if you are King Spam for the day, you get a can of spam under your name.

Apothos, just step forward, and get your can!!

I can't seem to use the rank system...when I get to the page to choose a ranking when I click the Rate it button I get an error page. This might be a prob with Opera though...does anyone else get this?
[MOD]X3TC No Fog / [MOD]X3AP No Fog / [MD]X3TC Menagerie Shipyard / [MD]X3AP Menagerie Shipyard
<==<<Argonaught>>==>

XBTF>XT>X2TT>X3R>X3TC>X3AP>X4F

I lurk alot for the most part now

I'm not fussed one way or another re ratings 8) but i have my doubts about the option [ Not recommended ] it provides a means of having a pop at some one  for example if you have crossed swords with some one on the board it's tempting to follow them around and constantly rate them as [ not recomended ] regardless of whether their post is interesting or relevant. 8)

The ratings indicating a recomended, or highly recomended, seem ok but 'not recomended' seems kinda negative 8)

But you'd only follow someone around and post negative stuff against them if you were....Mmmmmm........5 years old?

Ok, maybe 10. But anyone who does this (and we know), needs to go out for a walk in the fresh air and rethink their life. Don't you think?
