"Aye, right enough - and mebbe a wee bit too brief at times.."

- to fully exploit the upgrades, the pilot needs a complete explanation

- thus: I'm sure I'm not alone in applauding clevider's effort in this regard..

Navigation
  • Fly through gate
  • Map sector
  • Deploy satellite network (reqs at least one satellite to start)
  • Scan Asteroids (reqs mineral scanner)
If you select "Scan Asteroids" you get a choice of two commands
- Scan Asteroids (Scans asteroids in a sector)
- Survey Debris (Scans the "small stuff" asteroid debris and reports quantities)

Maybe you could add those?

Hiya..
I have since found this thread giving further info regarding the Supply Command Software:
http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=236986

- maybe this incoming data could also be incorporated into your guide..

PS: not being cheeky - just think your guide is essential..

These have been added. Thank you, fOSSil. I use Nividium's Sector Scanner for my explorer ships (from before the Egosoft added their scan command in ~v1.3) and thus hadn't thought to include these in the list.

I appreciate your sentiments. I considered doing this when I first built the list, but it was already over 3 pages long so I decided against it. Besides, I thought, the command names are fairly self-descriptive. I considered again now that you've asked...

On one hand, look at how many posts there are about how to use, for example, the mining command. Explaining its function here might help a number of people. On the other hand, look at how many posts there are about how to use the mining command. Most of these answer the same questions over and over again. Do we need another? Also, given the length and layout of the guide, there isn't a place for more than a brief description which, as Carlo pointed out, is included in-game.

Since I'd never thought to use the descriptions myself even after having heard about them, however, I started up X to read some. I had to fiddle quite a bit just to find them. As a result, I put a notice of their existence and how to access the descriptions at the top of the OP.

If anyone wants to share one line warnings against some gotchas or clarifications for misleading command names or descriptions, then I would like to include them. I can only think of one off the top of my head, but I've not used a good number of these commands since I've yet to acquire any carriers or capital ships).

fair enough..

I have copy/pasted your basic outline guide for hard-copy inclusion in my X3:TC ring binder..
as I come across more detailed instructions on each item, I shall incorporate
the data into my own guide under the various sub-headings..

- but thanks anyway..

Well, rather than make an explanation for the commands, perhaps sticking a link in which leads to the topics which best describe the usage of the commands (at least the ones which commonly get asked about). It wouldn't really increase the size of the post much (might be a bit of work to find the extra topics, but I'm sure others would be happy to help you), and it'd at least point to further reading for people.

Just my 2 cents.

Great idea getting a complete list though. At least we can know that this is fully tested (as someone pointed out, the in-game encyclopedia sometimes makes mistakes).

That seems like a good idea. I haven't had time to really go out and look for threads (or even to read the boards, sadly), but I've put in BugMeister's link for the two supply commands discussed in it.

I've recently started a new thread where "Survey Debris" of the Explorer Software is explained. Maybe its a start: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=235952.

I will correct this post when I am 100%, as well, didn't see it mentioned.

I think it was a Caiman I was using and I had to install Supply Command Software in order to get the Collect Wares menus. Again, when I figure out what it was I had to do, I will edit this post and clear it up.

Thanks for this information, absolutely helpful. There is a lot to the X Series games. It's funny when I look at the upgrades for some of my original sector traders and such because they have nearly every Extension upgrade available, for instance, a Caiman with Explorer, Supply, Patrol, etc. I hadn't realized it wouldn't really benefit certain ships to leave off the extensions. I've also noticed that some of the larger ships never get 'Collect Wares' menu options. Might want to include that information in this post, or a re-do of the post, aka final product (post).

There's now a similar list in the FAQ which lists the (hopefully correct :p) ship requirements for the main commands.

well in both lists collect rocks doesnt have a ship class requirement.. falcon haulers with ore collector/mineral scanner/special commands don't even have it on the command list. So I'd guess it's a TS+ command.

could i get an explanation on some of the turret commands. such as the differences between missile defense, missile only, and protect ship?

Missile Defense: Targets any incoming missiles and fires on the enemy ship that launched the missile after said missile has been destroyed/self-destructed.

Missile Only: Targets missiles only, turrets remain dormant if it's anything else.

Protect Ship: Turrets remain dormant until the ship has been hit by incoming enemy fire, then the turrets will start firing on the attackers.

Defend Ship sets your turret to target any active (attacking) threat to your ship.

Missile Defense gives missiles higher priority than other threats.

Missile Defense Only sets your turrets to only target missiles.

Missile defence will also shoot at any ship which shoots you (as said, missiles are given a higher priority) and it shoots with a lowered fire rate compared with other commands.
