For those wondering about this patch, I just found this a few days ago and decided to try it out... I wrote a pretty detailed description in another thread about it, the RRF 1.7 thread..

To make this one brief though, if you run a system using a x64 bit OS, you DO want to use this patch. Period!

As I explain in the other post, my FPS doubled, the stuttering is 98% gone, and the loads on my GPU and CPU have dropped although memory use has gone WAY up.

I have a tool I made for my G15 keyboard that shows me the stats for my system live while playing.. With this patch installed and X3 runnin during a battle, memory use went way up and I am now using about 59%-68% which is about 6 gig of ram on my system, which contains 9 gig total. It also shows a swap file at about 4 gig or so. CPU load is around 34%, GPU load is around 48%-53%, FPS now 34fps-58fps. FPS drops to about 20fps during larger battles and only during a couple massive massive battles have I seen it now dip below 12fps... and when I mean massive battle, we are talking about 150-175 ships in the SAME sector NOT counting merchants, civvies or other.

On my 32 bt system, this patch does not make any real impact most probably due to the 32 bit OS limitations. But for 64 bit, I was shocked at the difference and I will no longer play without this patch on my system.

The only bottleneck I still see is from sound, especially with those dam loud explosions from flak guns and other weapons that produce explosions in space... When a lot of those start going off, the stutter shows up but you can tell it is a sound issue because suddenly you find audio things slower than what you see on the screen sometimes. i.e. voices delayed from reporting something and so forth. You see the text but the audio does not play until later after it catches back up...
Take it light.....

I've tried both this, and the CFF way with my steam X3TC. The game doesn't start with the >2GB flagged. Something about X3 couldn't start and it has an "error code 51" going on.

Anyone know what's the problem?

Thanks my games were laggy after the 2.5 patch. This helps so much way better than just accepting the lag.

AVG also reports it as a trojan; "IRC/BackDoor.SdBot4.OZD" to be exact. Confirm/Deny?

its possible its a false positive, after all, it does change the flags in exe files, which is what some virus do

I would like to use this patch. I'm running 2.5 on Vista64, the patch is extracted into the TC folder and is sitting right next to X3TC.exe. When I run it though it fails, says something like "Can't access file, it may be in use. Please close file and try again".

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Scratch that, false alarm, it had to be run as administrator. All sorted.

Okay, since updating to 2.5 I have noticed the shutters, dropped frame rates, etc that I'm guessing is due to the >2GB removal in the 2.5 patch (BTW I am running Win7Pro x64).

However, I have also noticed an occasional glitch where my screen goes blank and the monitor fusses about resolution going to 1682X1050 and being out of range (should be 1680X1050). It eventually recovers to a very low resolution so I can at least save the game, exit and restart the computer. Could this be due to the patch also or something else? Anyway, I'm going to try this tonight and will report what happens.

Okay I tried this and it seemed to fix the jitters, but I am still getting the random GPU crash though.

BTW: you might to put somewhere in the first post that anti-virus programs will see this as a threat and delete it since it is changing a executable.

Just put it in my XTC main folder..clicked patch, and got some contradictory messaging:
"Done!"
"Can not Find File. Search file?"
..so I'm not certain if it was correctly installed.

I tried to load this file and my Norton's security flagged it as a Trojan Horse and blocked any access to the file. Maybe it is how he set it up but I am not going to use it.

This is only a "convenience tool", targeting X2TC 2.5 specifically. Programming utilities from Microsoft can toggle the LargeAddressAware flag in any Windows 32-bit binary.

It's a monitor resolution/gpu or driver problem in win 7 resetting your res for some reason.

Google gave me these

Maybe one of the links will have info on getting your screen working as it should.
