From my opinion - it's look like Xtended with with missions written by MD.
May be some additional changes in Script Engine.

So... As this is the 'culmination of the X trilogy, with a grand finale...', does that mean that Egosoft will be trying their hand at something else next, or possibly the dreaded online game... (NOTE: Rhetorical questions, I don't rightly expect an answer). ADDITIONAL NOTE: Woohoo!

No. X4 will obviously be part of the quadrilogy. I'm looking forward to the marketing spiel:
X3: Terran Confilct is the fifth game in the X trilogy.

I thought the same thing at first, but maybe it's just the grand finale for the storyline in this game, not the whole series. Hopefully!

This is tremendously exciting. Expansionist evil humans plotting to take over the rest of the universe, and I get to choose to be against them or with them. That'd own. Seriously. Wow. I'd walk all over those hippie Borons!

I hope it'll be bugtested as hell. That's my only gripe with the X-games; bugs. Please Egosoft, make it as bugfree as possible.

Sounds to me like Terran conflict is going to be to X3 what Cataclysm was to Homeworld and Mysteries of the Sith was to Jedi knight. i.e. A stand alone game based on the same engine that's more then a simple expansion pack, but not quite a full blown sequel.
This is a damn good thing, since both the above games where superior in many ways to the originals. Hindsight is a wonderful thing :) .

So I'm looking foreward to it, especially since it sounds like Egosoft have been busy developing the tools to add a LOT of new content easily. That in turn means us long time xers may finally get a lot of completely new things to do.

A standalone game? with no mention of empire building or trading?
Sounding like a FPS to me... if it is, it doesnt deserve the X tag and should get a new name.
But I'll wait and see, and welcome it with open arms and cheque book.

But dont kill off the empire building and trading that X has become to represent!

i really dont know where you got the idea that its a FPS.

its a standalone game based on the X3 engine, meaning its like an Expansion to X3, but doesn't require X3 to run and is a game in its own right. So the game play will be simlar

Very good news indeed!

It has been only a few weeks since i started this X-rollercoaster ride and already i am enthousiastic about the x-franchise and this upcoming standalone/expansion!

And more news from the Terrans..i will mop the floor with them! :P

I'd guess, using the X3 engine, the basic bugs will be the ones we already know and love (to exploit). And the Storyline bugs will be weeded after 2 patches. I only hope it will be a little more complex this time, at least one of the storylines at least...

And for the release date / leaking: seems something good finally came from a business roadmap :D And it'll be great for all those who get XTC for Xmas 8), as the walkthroughs will be ready for them when they get it...
