In-Game Universe Map
I am working on creating an expanded Universe for my game and I wanted to check and see if anyone had created a new version of the in-game universe map (00749.bob) that will show All of the Sector Boxes AND the Gate routes.
Right now, the version that I have shows all of the Sector boxes as a flat grid and with no gate routes. Is this the only modded 00749.bob file that there is?
I'd like to have one that is 3d like the original map but shows all of the sector boxes with the gate routes.

I would be interested in this program as well. Would make my life a little easier, I'm putting together an expanded map with several new sectors to explore. This program that Cycrow mentioned sounds like something very useful.

Thanks... but that isnt what I was looking for.
I've already created the Universe... its just that my new sectors don't show up on the Vanilla universe map. The Universe map being the 00749.bod file.
I have one version of the file that will show any sector placed in the Universe, but it makes the Universe flat and doesnt show any gate lines. The Universe map appears as a flat grid.
I wanted to see if anyone had created a file that shows any sector box, is 3d, or at least shows the gate lines.

There's supposed to be a version of it in 03.dat. Have you tried extracting that one and looking at it?CaptG wrote:I've already created the Universe... its just that my new sectors don't show up on the Vanilla universe map. The Universe map being the 00749.bod file.

I've just had a look, and I can't see 00749.bod in 03.dat, but there is a objects\v\0749.pbd. I seem to recall hearing you can convert pbd to bod, but I'm no modder - check the sticky or do a search on it (unless some kind modder soul here answers it first.)
Looking further, since it makes sense that it would have changed with Bala Gi, there is another version in 08.dat, which should have the new sectors from 2.0. Same location, objects\v\00749.pbd.

CaptG, I believe that this is the tool that Cycrow was talking about.
I dug around the net and found it, tried it as well. It does what you want. But, the map that it creates is only 2D in the game. It is a starting place however, you might be able to take the file it outputs and modify it in gmax to get what you want.
File name you will be looking for is "g749_V014.rar"
here's a link to where I found it;

try this one, the download link is in the first post. I just tried it and it was going to download the correct file. It is from the german forum, but the software has english text and an english readme.

Not sure, looks like that would be OK.
However, when I used it for my little map. I copied the 00749.bod file into the folder that the program was located in and used the command as follows.
In the terminal window I changed to the drive the program was in, then switched to the folder it's located in and ran the command. my command line looked kinda like this (using your setup as an example).
"D:/>gen749.exe Xtended_Universe.xml"
One other thing I did, maybe this is the issue too. I edited the gen749.ini file.
There are a few things in here that need to be set. Below is a copy of the .ini file I used. You might check this against your .ini to see the differences. The changes thst I made were to the "Boxing of sectors", "Names of sectors" and "Geyty" sections, I believe the original setting was "Std", I changed them to "Map".
After running it created the 00749.bod inside the programs folder, where "gen749.exe" is located. I the moved this .bod file to my X3 folder under "X3 REUNION\objects\cut" it must be in that folder.
Hope that helps!
On a side note, if you are using the "Firefox" web browser. You can download a plugin for it called "translator" that is a language translator.
I use it to check out things in the german forum. It does a very good job at translating other languages to english. (just some info I thought you might find useful.

no sure man, I didn't place mine in a .cat file, just left it in "X3 - Reunion/objects/cut". The game found it and ran fine. You might PM Cycrow see if he has any ideas. Wish I could be of more help, but I'm afraid I don't know what to tell you now.
Hope you find an answer.

You could try http://forum2.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=166320. It's not in-game and won't show the sector positions in 3d the same way as the in-game map. But it does show the gate connections.
edit: nvm didn't understand what you were trying to accomplish well enough.

I've tried everything suggested so far and nothing has worked. Game will load and then crashes when I try to view the Universe map.
The 'flat grid' file that I had been using works fine, but it doesnt show the gate routes between sectors. I wanted a map that would at least show the gate routes.
Ok, I may be wrong but isn't the file 'objects/cut/00749.pbd' the in-game universe map?
Because there is another file 'objects/v/00749.pbd'.
