Conversion of scale in BOD to in-game measurements

According to this thread and a thread here, the first number after the materials is the Body Size, and the integers following each body section are level of detail (LOD) values, which seem to indicate that smaller numbers mean less detail.

Here's my current working theory on how the Body Size, point values, and in-game measurements work together:

Max point value is 100000, which = 1 unit
Body Size value is scale unit multiplier
In-game conversion is 1 U = 2mm (based on this)

So, if we use the Astronaut.bod file as an example, which has maximum Y values of 100000, and a Body Size of 491, that translates into in-game measurement of:

 ( ABS ( 100000U / 100000 ) + ABS ( -100000U / 100000 ) ) * 491 * 2mm/U = 1,964mm / 1000 mm/M = 1.964 M * 3.28ft/M = 6 ft 5 in

So, the astronaut spacesuit is about 6 and a half feet tall. Sounds about right to me.

Two things amaze me the most: 1, the Buster Sentinel is the smallest piloted ship, smaller than any M5, and 2, the boarding pod is HUGE! No wonder it can be shot down so easily!

Oh wow, nice work there, though I have to admit I'm more of a pictures person; but now we have sizes for the smaller ships too. Ha. I was always hoping the Buster Sentinel would be worth something.
Forgive me if you've already addressed this, but what are the max and min fields about? Do they determine the size of a ship's bounding sphere (or whatever it's called — the thing that determines how far away other ships will try to avoid it from)?

So, the astronaut spacesuit is about 6 and a half feet tall. Sounds about right to me.

That's amusing when you think about it... Not all the races are the same size, I imagine that's a given; apparently an adult Teladi is only as big as a human child (though I've only read that on Wikipedia, I think, so I wouldn't assume it's true).

Correct, the Max and Min values are the extent of the values in the respective X, Y, and Z fields. From what I can tell, the X values represent width, the Z values represent length, and the Y values represent height.

There's a comment somewhere that the bounding box used by collision detection is actually the last body part described in the bod file. I didn't come across that information until I had finished pulling the data out of the bod files, so I'll need to go back and gather that.

It would be more believable (and realistic) if the different races had different astronaut suits - I think some of the races are supposedly larger than humans - all the astronaut 'ships' defined in TShips point back to the same bod file.
