+1 for sending the ex-Tyr captain back gift wrapped in a boarding pod. Classic!
From spacesuit to a Tyr + sizeable fleet...truly impressive!

Nice one Guv, (raises glass of Karr LinG), played for and got.
How narked are the Terrans now?
p.s. please do not assign Chalky as my escort. Anyone who paints bullseyes on his ship really is asking for it.
p.p.s. Figure you could make a few chairs to go on the bridge.

Nuke 'em 'til they glow and shoot 'em in the dark.

Sorry? What do you mean you can't raise the rest of the fleet? Report Mr Scott!.. Mr Scott?.. Mr Scott, why are you running for the airlock?

.. Oh crap, not again!. Do these things come with some kind of emergency jumpdrive attachment?!? Ok, think think think! 26 Flak cannons, no shields, no jumpdrive, no fuel even we did have a jumpdrive. Incoming enemy fleet.. ... ... ...
Wait for me Mr Scott!!
<Intermission>
Personal log:
I've been trying to reach the rest of the team on our encrypted suit comms. Nothing. I've a horrible suspicion that the rest of the guys didn't make it out alive. It looks like I'm the only survivor, stuck deep in Terran space, far from home with enemies all around. Karmas a bitch..
http://dbbr17626.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/steve/01-1.jpg
.. At least the view is nice.
Leo 'Steve' Kayean ending log:
Ah, time. One of those things we never have enough of and one which I've been having increasingly less of just lately, hence the somewhat patchy updates of recent times. Not a situation that's likely to resolve in the forseeable future either unfortunately, quite the opposite in fact. Work does seem to have that effect on things..
Anyways, I think the time has come to draw our narrative to a close. Everything that has a beginning must have an end and I did at least want to finish up what was started with the Tyr. Just for the record the Tyr did decide to jump of it's own accord, that's not the first time I've had a boarding target do that on me so must be some game mechanic. You'll have to forgive the artistic licence taken from there although I think there's a certain circular completeness to ending things this way that seems to fit, at least in my mind anyway.

I've been playing X-series since X2 but I fell out with TC after the 1.3(?) goner pirate swarm bug robbed me of my 10 billion+ credit empire... I hadn't even considered playing for a very very long time.... until I came across this inspiring story... Thanks for bringing me back NS. You are an epic storyteller

Noooooo - you can't end it there! You were only a few thousand views from the top ten most viewed ever!!
Sorry RL is getting in the way of fun, but really - thanks very much for the stories! I resisted reading your first one as such things hold no real interest for me, but it stuck around so long, I finally succumbed. And I'm glad I did. You personally are responsible for the amount of time I spend on these forums, waiting for the next chapter!
Thanks for entertaining us N-S and here's hoping you get time to do another, one day

"Helm, what do you mean, the Admiral's new acquisition made an emergency jumpout?!"
"Well, sir... my sensors tell me that the Tyr executed an emergency jump just a few seconds ago... Destination unknown."
"Damn it! What's the status on our jumpdrives?"
"They're ... being jammed, sir!"
"What?! Jammed?? Mr. Matthews, report!"
"There are three ... Tyrs, two Odins, fifteen Aegirs and numerous fighters, bearing down on our position, sir. Time to contact: 45 seconds"
"Mr. Carryl, what's our fleet's status?"
"... I'm not... Sir, I'm not picking up any signals. There are also no signs of their jumpdrives having been engaged. The debris caused by our recent engagement is interfering with our sensors, but I'd still be able to locate capital ships if they were there. They're not. There's more debris at their last positions."
"Warning, enemy contact in 15 seconds"
"Mr. Matthews, what's our missile compliment?"
"Sir, we have mostly depleted our supplies during the operation 'It's all going to end in Tyrs' - we are down to 25 Hammers and 100 Flails. Sir, th-"
"Warning, enemy contact in 5 seconds"
"That's not enough, I know Mr. Matthews. Target the nearest fighter, launch all the missiles we have, starting with the Flails. Let's give these Terrans a fight to remember."
"Warning, incoming missile. Warning, incoming missile. Warning, incoming missile."
"Helm, turn the ship around and head away from that Terran fleet, maximum speed. Mr. Matthews, I need that rear turret to destroy any incoming missiles."
"Warning, shields at 50% and falling. Warning, shields at 45% and falling."
... the ship is rocked by explosions, the energy grid failing ...
"Warning, hull breach imminent. Warning, reactor overload imminent. Warning, life support is failing. Warning, main propulsion failing. Warning. Wa-"
"Mr. Matthews, Mr. Carryl, it's been an honor."
BOOM
... Pity the story ended this way. Many thanks for the great stories, NS, they've been an inspiration. Hope you get some more spare time to pl-*cough* relax sometime in the near future. On that note, it's been a pleasure to have served as a (at times drunken) M7M pilot in your fleet

N-S: Two things.
First, please do your followers a favor and post the kill log of that last battle. I'd like to know if I survived until the end.
Second: Seriously, thanks for all the work you've put into these threads. I've gotten a ton of enjoyment out of them. Especially this last story. I'm proud to have been the first pilot to join your ragtag fleet, and to have survived all the way until the curtain.

Seconded. Excellent tale of adventure, rivaled (and not bested) only by Steve's former master.
I agree with Gothsheep, a tally of the final battle's survivors would indeed be welcome. Either way, it was an honor to serve since nearly the beginning of your fleet.
