exogenesis wrote:Also I think I've found the reason for the 'Invalid Parameter was Encountered' thing,
it relates to loading of *some* nebula backrounds, so if you have the default 'random nebula background',
sometimes you get the message, sometimes you don't, will look closer at this.
if any of the nebula's between redsplit and whitenexus are picked causes the 'invalid parameter was encountered'. the rest of them appear to be fine. (i checked them all out  )

FYI:

1) when changing x game path from TC to Reunion doesn't change the last race label from ATF to OTHER correctly. have to close out and restart viewer to get correct labels. where is a as circled pic to show you what it does after you switch:
[ external image ]

as i am sure you are very well aware there is no ATF in reunion

2) attempted to open viewer to view TC ships then open another viewer to view Reunion ship to compare. (2 viewers opened at the same time) causes my computer to slow down to a crawl and both viewers crashed eventually.

1 well spotted, hadn't thought of that
2 probably memory use I guess,
I'm aware also that if you use dual screen, 3Drender on the 2nd screen
is much slower than on the primary (for some dx3d reason, I think).

thanks pelador, better now (but that means Ihave to go to work).

couple of nit picky things:

1) when viewing x2 ships can you change it so the race is only labelled once like it does for x3 and TC?

[ external image ]

2) can you change the order listing for big class ships? I.E. M0, then M1, then M2, then M6, then M7, and finally M8:

FYI:

i attempted to use the turret4_dummy scene from TC and use it on a reunion ship (xenon J) made the necessary changes in the tships and tried to load the ship with the new turret in viewer (viewer was set to reunion directory). viewer crashed when i attempted to use the new scene + bod file. but worked just fine when i used a scene + bob.

Aha, draffutt strikes again ;)

1 it's amazing thing I don't see that are right in front of me,
I made sure the X2 double naming didn't occur in the stats-window,
but forgot to apply it to the main window title - noted, thanks

2 Why?, the order is based on a nominal 'intended destructive power' (as I see it),
i.e. M0 > M2 > M1 > M8 > M7M > M7 > M6M > M6 ( > M3+ > M3 > M4+ > M4 > M5+ > M5 )

Have you compiled that J with TC turret4_dummy bob into a mod .cat/dat file,
if so could you put it somewhere I can download it from ?
(assuming it not part of a massive cat file).

thats only because i have been using your program so much. :D otherwise i wouldn't have stumbled across another glitch but more on that later.

good thinking.

here you go:
request.rar

now the glitch. check this out:

this is what i received when i added one wrong file and attempted to view in reunion. i bet you can guess what file that was.

just in case thou here is the mod for the screen shot:

Good news is:
Looks like the turret4 in X3:R thing is already fixed (in pending release - a little while yet),
due to added changes in 'normals' format parsing.

Not so good:
Reproduced something similar to that 'load ship dialog' stangeness,
will take a little investigating to fix.

im sure you'll figure it out.

by the way you may want to take a look at the pirate bayamon from x2. the viewer doesn't want to assemble that ship properly

I've got a bug I haven't seen described anywhere else here, so want to ask.

The viewer works great for me right after installing it, but it seems to have a problem remembering where my x3 directory is. Every time I open it after the first time, it gives me an error that says:

The directory (it prints some characters that look chinese here)
does not appear to contain a valid X game.
Please browse to your X game directory.

It then lets me browse to the directory and will work again until I close and reopen it again. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling this twice, but it always has this problem. I'm running Vista 32-bit. Any ideas what might cause this?

Aye, a few people have reported this, possibly Vista specific.
It's on the list of thing to sort out (hopefully) :)

I have the same problem but with vista 64, I don't think it is a script/mod issue as the only modsI have is X1PF and RRF. I think it is a 64bit problem.

I don't have Vista 64 installed to test this
(I have an ultimate install disc, but haven't plucked up courage to dual boot it yet).

drone1029, those seem to be 'scripts only' mode except for the Battlestar one, I'll see if that one gives me a problem.

SS_T, RRF is a script only mod?, what's X1PF ?

sadly i don't think its a 64bit specific problem. i use ultimate64 bit vista and the only crash i have had so far with viewer is the invalid command which is linked to those backrounds i mentioned earlier and for some reason at random times the viewer corrupts my nvidia drivers which forces me to reboot my computer to recover.

X1PF is the mod I am building . But the viewer didn't work with a clean x3tc without any mods.

EDIT: actually saying that, i've just loaded the viewer up again and it worked :o . I did update my nvidia driver yesterday :D , so hope it is ok now.

FYI:

if the 00044.pck is removed for whatever reason; viewer doesn't check to see if there is a 00044.xml (as i had extract it from the pck so i could mod it) in its place (in the same folder). also it doesn't utilize this file if it is part of the cat/dat.
