The most sensible way to ask such a question is by putting a save game up on a filesharing site. If not, everybody here has to guess which kind of stations you've built.

Problem with engine parts as trade goods is that your main customers are shipyards & wharves. They only need engine parts while they're actively making ships. If they run out of something else (e.g. hull parts) they can't make ships, so their demand for engine parts can dry up rapidly. Would suggest scanning nearby shipyards etc to see what their stock levels look like - find out what they need to start building ships again. Then either locate NPC stations which make the needed stuff & trade, or build appropriate production modules at your own stations.

Go discover the Split and make friends with them, set up some freighters to transport engine parts to their wharfs/shipyards/equipment docks.

Use their equipment docks to upgrade whichever ships you have available to combat engines to MK4 (This will eat up the docks engine parts), Go sell that engine to their wharf or someone elses wharf for profits, Sell your engine parts to the depleted station, rinse and repeat.

Basic factions are no longer starved of engine parts so unless you set up in a sector where you can supply multiple factions you probably aren't going to make a great deal.
