Sanctuary of Darkness (Kingdom End DLC)

OK, so I'm playing the Kingdom End plot now. How do I survive getting across Sanctuary of Darkness? No matter how close I stick to the never-to-be-sufficiently-cursed asteroids, some random Kha'ak Protector finds me and kills me. Even in this Mako scout the Boron give me.

I believe I did this mission in my Kuraokami, though plenty of other M class ships should make it fairly easy to survive long enough to place the nav beacons. A heavy fighter could work well too.

I did it in the Mako, i had no problem. Take a fight when you can win, or burn away

I do most of the missions in my personal destroyer. Or at least some L ship with some AA firepower (Buffalo, Wyvern).

Perhaps you misunderstood the mission. The asteroids - or better: the red and purple areas on the map - is the part of the sector, where you will not be destroyed by flares. Of course, you shouldn't think the Khaakh are friendly.
