[X3TC] Fastest TM ship?

Post by Markhor »

*cough*. topic says it all. fastest TM, and how useful is the Argon Magnetar for a starter? I seem to have 4 ships now and enough to outfit them all with best lasers/shields, and wanna do some squad-like carrying and patrols and station defending and stuff. fun stuff. namely anti-Xenon stuff in non-Argon territory for rep...since I have Teladi and Argon licenses..might as well get some more =)

The fastest speed of a TM that exists is 154 m/s which is held by the Split Boa and Yaki Chokaro. The non existant Advanced Chokaro does 156 m/s.

I tend to use the Zephyrus due to it being the only TM with main guns.

The Yaki TM may be the ship for yourself, if you have access to the Yaki Shipyard. If not, try OTAS, who do a good deal on TM's.

iirc, the Split Boa is the fastest TM with 154m/s.

The Magnetar is quite a bit slower, but works fine as a Fighter Transport. The Boa has a better laser generator, but that only matters if you want your TM to get involved in the fun. I never do, so it's unimportant to me. But as a personal ship, I prefer the Boa for its speed.

The OTAS Zephyrus has 3 times the shields (3x200MJ) of the Boa. But again, that only matters if you want it to be involved in the fighting. It's almost as fast as the Boa (140 m/s), so maybe it's a good trade-off for you.

EDIT: corrected mistake

3x200 MJ shielding? hot damn! i kinda wanna be a 'safe haven' for the fighters and of course stick turrets on it. the ships will be carried and once i find a threat, i tell them to protect my target..or whatever needs it. as such, being in the midst of it all means a lot.
i'll look at that TM. thanks..but..a Magnetar isn't that bad for home sector patrol, right? i mean if a TM can, saying if, and it can hold ships..that's 4x4=16 ships max to defend my home sector.. O_o
now i'm not sure what to do after it..guess maybe Paranid missions..
will doing Paranid missions, or missions for ANY faction lower my rep with others? (not counting the 'destroy this convoy'. those i know do. i mean others).

I'm not sure what you mean. One TM can hold 4 M3/4/5. That's 5 ships if you include the TM.

Even the best TM has a fairly bad weapons generator and its poor agility will make it a bad dog-fighter. The only way, IMO, you can use it effectively in combat is equipping it with lots of missiles.

Doing missions for one race will not lower race rep with any other, per se. The only way you lose rep with others is attacking their ships.

Ergo, as you noted, destroy convoy missions will lower rep with the convoy's race. Other combat missions will generally spawn Pirates or Yaki and will lower your race rep with them.

Of course, they might also spawn Xenon or Kha'ak, but your race rep with them doesn't really matter, does it!

600 MJ of shields can disappear very fast when assaulted by two or three PBG-wielding enemies. It's best to keep your underarmed and unmaneuverable TM well out of harm's way. It really doesn't last long in a fight.

ok for that 4x4=16 thing...

one TM can dock in one space at a station, right?
one TM carries 4 ships.
4 TM's maxed means 16 ships..they'd launch to defend the station and launch their ships right?

My TMs are for carrying fighters to where I need them, and keeping them as safe as possible. Secondly they act as energy/ammo mules. As such I go for shielding and cargo space. They're actual movement speed is irrelevent when all you do is jump in, launch their wing then jump out again, why would you need to have them carry fighters across sectors? Big shields mean it (and your fighters) have a higher chance of surviving if things get heavy.

No. TM's aren't considered combat ships. They're freighters. So they won't undock to defend. I think only fighter-class ships will do that. And I don't know if that even includes M6's, since I've never tried them.
