Script editor can not be enabled.

Any thoughts on this one? Whenever I try to enable the script editor, the game crashes right to the desktop. I have actually started using that for a quick way to exit the game, but I would rather get the editor to work.

Good question.

I am attempting to enable it by first ensuring that I am in the game and my ship is flying. Then I enter 'Thereshallbewings' (without the quotes, and with the capital 'T'). At this point the game pauses for 1/2 a sec and then drops to the desktop.

This worked for the Galaxy Editor when I was at the load screen, but not in-game for the script editor.

I spoke too soon, I used Thereshallbewings in the load screen and got the universe editor, but when I try to use it it also drops me to the desktop.

Well it works here - start a new game and change your pilot's name to "Thereshallbewings" - when you hit enter the game'll pause for a tad, and then resume with the same pilot name as it had before you renamed it.

OK I am back to normal now. Does anyone know what physically happens then Thereshallbewings is entered? Is there a but in a configuration file that gets flipped? Is it a registry entry? There must be something if you do not have to enter it every time you play the game... or do you?

Opps. I did not refresh the page to see that my earlier post made it or that you replied. Thanks for the reply by the way.

Changing the pilot name did not work, all I got was a pilot named Thereshallbewings. I tried it again with the game I was playing before and again the pilot name changed and nothing else.

I am either missing something obvious, or I need to reinstall the game... Yeah, I should try that.

have you put any scripts in the X2/scripts directory

enabling the script editing could try to load these causing the game to crash

I got it to work!

I erased several game files, pretty much everything but the obvious non essentials, and then reinstalled. Now it works fine.

No need t press anything or press any buttons just type Thereshallbewings while in space
