BREAKING NEWS:

There have been allegations of several mysterious 'abductions' of gaming hobbyists, all of them allegedly having as their one link that they are members of the Egosoft game company's internet forums. Making this story even stranger is the fact that the people themselves still seem to be active on those forums. One forumite, who didn't wish to be identified, said that there was speculation on the forum that the activity was due to androids posing as the missing gamers.

A spokesman for Egosoft stated: "We can neither confirm nor deny these rumours, nor can we give a release date for the upcoming release of X:Rebirth." We also corresponded with one of the alleged 'missing' gamers, Xfan99999, who responded: "I can neither confirm nor deny that I am an android, nor can I either confirm or deny that the real Xfan99999 is locked in a secret dungeon under the Egosoft headquarters."

Taking a subtle hint from the correspondence with this alleged android, we approached some residents who live in the vicinity of the Egosoft HQ, and several reported strange 'screams of ecstasy', as if they were being 'forced to play an as yet unreleased game before everyone else that happened to be very good, 24 hours a day', was an example one resident claimed, which was quickly echoed by the others.

The police have been strangely silent about this incident, and after a request for a statement, a spokesman responded "These allegations are clearly nonsensical. It would be a waste of police resources to respond to such a ridiculous scenario." When asked about the mysterious happenings at Egosoft HQ, the spokesman replied that "We can neither confirm nor deny that we have investigated Egosoft, nor can we confirm or deny that they made us sign NDAs after we visited them."

Hrm, I still see no option to change.

Do I need to reset it ?

You don't just "change" it. You have to click on the link to sign an NDA and then submit it.

There is more info about this in the Rules, Guidelines and FAQs about DevNet thread (accessible only to people who have already signed up for basic DevNet membership).

I dont get it?, No disrespect towards Egosoft or any of its employees, but I have been playing about 13-14 Betas when I look back, and some of them are large developers like Blizzard "World of Warcraft" but never had to sign a contract to participate in a Beta.
When I played the Vanilla WoW beta back in 2004, we werent allowed to talk about things we saw ingame etc, but still didnt had to sign a contract, you just registrated as you normally do, same for Cryptic's Star Trek Online, was even the same for Atari's Test Drive Unlimited 2 Beta.

So whats the fuzz really about, the Devnet level or the Beta play of X-Rebirth ?

@Freeman

There is a big difference between Closed Beta (which Egosoft uses on new games) and Open Beta which is what Blizzard and others use. In Closed Beta, you must sign an NDA or something like that in order to proceed.

Egosoft uses Open Beta for games that are already released, like the Open Beta currently running for X3AP.

If you want to participate in a beta just to play earlier think again, help testing a game is not an easy task, all those "open beta" or closed beta with pre-order, and blah blah blah arent betas at all, and players just play and the only thing they do is to complain when something does not work. Belive me, ive been in all those kind of betas, GW2, Darkfall, WoW, COH and i lose track of them and they arent betas at all, just marketing moves.

And finally, playing a game in a early state may greatly ruin your gameplay experience when the games comes out, that happened to me a few times, like when i was a tester for an Lineage 2 new chonicle, when it was finally done, i did not wanted to play the game at all.

Lets not jump to conclusions, shall we ?
I didnt say I wanted to play the BETA just to get an early start.

I've always provided feedback on things I've done/tested that I thought needed attention when I played a BETA, bug reporting etc, so keep that conclusion to yourself.
And I did say in a post above that I've participated in about 13-14 betas so far, so dont think you're the only one with experience.

I mainly play Beta on games to provide the best possible feedback and avoid getting a full blood release thats all buggy and half done.
But you also of course get a sneak peak on what to come.

No real comment on this, but I participated in the MWO closed beta and I had to sign an NDA to do so. I don't have as much beta participation experience as you - just mentioning that (imo, at least), NDAs aren't unheard-of for closed betas~
(Oh no, you forgot to close the parenthesis! Someone might get in!

big question is were the beta's you participated in for online play???

no one will worry much if a few multiplayer arenas get leaked if it means testing a games online functionality properly, however with Egosoft games you will basicly get access to everything single player when testing, the last thing I would want is for some idiot who has become a beta tester to start leaking imformation and spoilers all over the forums and web because they havn't had to sign an NDA, one of the main features of an X game is exploration and discovery and I for one would not want thousands of beta testers free to divulge all the hidden treasures they have found in the game.
I used to list PC parts here, but "the best" will suffice!

Are you sure you didn't agree to an NDA in any of those games ?
they might not have had a physical document to sign and send away but many would have you agree to something when you signed up.
For other online games thou, i know that SWTOR, SimCity and ESO all have NDA's for thier closed betas

X-Rebirth what? Never heard of it...(its actually a bit quiet atm)

Post by Xtreme2k »

Okay...first I´ll not ask "When will it get out" or something...

But im wondering what the actual progress is.
If you type "X-Rebirth" or "X-Rebirth release" in google you will only find articels from december 2012 that XR release has been moved to 2013.

If you dig a bit deeper on youtube you can find a few "new" videos of the "making of this and that".

Im a bit worried that this project fails...just see Star Citizen or The Elder Scrolls Online. News, updates etc are frequently postet...statements from devs and so on..

btw...the youtube videos recording time is something between uploading date and 5 years ago...hard to tell.

Read This

The X: Rebirth project is still alive and well. It's just a massive project for such a small team.

There is no need for yet another release date/no info thread. Thread of previous 3 posts merged.

Well, there is a correct way to complain in a beta:
File a bug report with all the details of how to reproduce the problem. Usually there is a "how to file bugs" sticky on the beta forums. Read it and follow the procedure outlined there.

Sure it is more work than "OMG this suckz!!!", but if you take the time to write a detailed bug report, you are actually a good beta tester :).
Gazz in the LT forum:
In X3, piracy is not implemented at all. All the "pirates" that fly around are bands of roaming psychopaths that destroy everything they see without even trying to loot anything.

I guess we will se XR this year - Sainsbuys is not a small veggie shop on the corner but large supermarket network (but they often do pre-order for even 6 months before release date)

thumbs crossed XD

I hope I have not draw attention to buying from them (Sainsbury's) because I`ll rather let EGOSOFT earn on this release...

They have placed it in adventure category (lol what mistake - nearly an insult)
