The Occulus is not currently a consumer ready product (and there is no current estimate as to when it will be consumer ready) but would appear to employ similar concepts (albeit different technical implementation) to other head tracking VR solutions (e.g. Vuzix, Worldviz, etc).
[EDIT]TrackIR would appear to be a head/face tracking but not strictly speaking a VR product.[/EDIT]

Thats why I have gone with a 3 monitor setup with 32 inch flat screens... it only cost a bit.. if I went with 20 inch monitors it would only be a few hundred dollars and I get practically guarenteed results.Alan Phipps wrote:If you mean the cheapo bodge job described, that is more head-tracking using a modified pair of glasses. VR needs more of a surround headset than a pair of glasses I believe - I could be wrong though.

I think I must be the only person not excited by the OR. Its a cool piece of kit, don't get me wrong, but imo it will be too immersive. By that I mean it will be annoying to take yourself out of the game to do simple things like take a sip from your drink, check your phone, have a chat with another person in the room, take/make notes, go to the bathroom, etc. Plus it then relies on you being able to touchtype since you can no longer see the keyboard or anything around you.

I know that i'll can't speak with my girlfriend (gorgeous

mainly i play in night, 10 pm to 3 am, when my family sleeps, and if i have to drink or go to bathroom with or without oculus it's the same thing, i've to put the game on pause.
For keyboard...mmm.. this is a problem, a real problem, in fact in all videos they use a joypad.
For X-rebirth i'll use a Cyborg F.L.Y. and a razer nostromus, i know they like my pants pockets.

it could be fantastic!Jawms wrote:Correct me if im wrong.. but are they not attempting to make a slightly transparent mode, for when you do want to look at the keyboard etc? would be nice if you look down and it becomes transparent, look back up and it goes back to full view..
Would solve some issues with having to do other things.
