All we can say at this point is that it will be in 2012. Stay tuned for more precise information.

In an interview I had with Bernd he said "The game will come out in 2012, definitely not in Q4 2011."

Came across an interesting article from Giantbomb, with some seemingly unique details:
  • You'll be able to tailor your drones to perform specific functions and tasks.
It is possible to purchase very large ships. These larger ships will be controlled by the crew aboard the Albion and not by the player. One single ship of this kind can have over a hundred different systems tied to its hull, from missile systems to shield generators.
The Albion Skunk will be able to land on even bigger ships, for repairs, trade and other types of interaction.
You give your [factory] workers the work-order by landing on the platform and discussing your plans. Plans can be altered as your men are building.
Supply, Production, Storage, Hull Protection and Military capabilities will be among the aspects to consider.
If you'd like to leave all of this to the NPCs, you can do that. You'll also be able to search for NPC individuals best suited to manage your station for you once its completed.
In the beginning of the game you start off as a bright young adventurer, and together with your female ally, you'll travel around in an old and battered cargo ship.

You seem to have missed that nobody has taken cred for writing all that very questionable material and this line might shed some light on that: "The content below is entirely editable." (at the top of the page and with a big red "Edit Article" button next to it) all combined with an almost-got-it-right-line like "In previous games you simply had to place factories as they were transported by mammoth transports to your desired sector." I think it's rather safe to assume that the info is wrong.

No, that fact did not escape my notice. However, there are some pretty specific details in there that I have not seen anywhere else. I'd consider the article written by someone who was casually familiar with the X series, and was provided information regarding Rebirth, rather than looking in the ES forums or other news articles for the details. But you're welcome to dismiss it entirely.

em3e3: An article written by someone who does not even know that there are other ships than a Mammoth that can transport station kits in the current games and that seems to just randomly add up what we DO know but in all the wrong ways? Yeah, I'm going to haveto dismiss this completely I'm afraid...

I think the author meant 'mammoth' as in huge, not Mammoth as in the Argon TL. Some people actually do use punctuation as it's meant to be.
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

X4 is a journey, not a destination. Have fun on your travels.

I gotta say, that is entirely possible. How likely it is on the other hand... who knows? :D Well, the facts that this site offers - written by anonymous people - will be proven right or wrong in time anyway. I still find it very hard to believe that a place like that has any hard fact's we don't. ;)

I think they hit a problem in the summer that they weren't expecting and Egosoft openly admitted that the X3:Reunion release was kind of forced on them and a mistake. So I would say what you are seeing is lessons learnt from the past...

back on topic:

HMV list the release date as 16-12-2011

Which cannot be true, because Bernd already stated that the release date will be in 2012.

Every online retailer listing a definite release date these days just wants to get you to pre-order at his site.

Looks like they changed the front page. It's now officially 2012.

"X Rebirth for PC is expected to be released in 2012."
