Which would just natural and normal human behavior.
Every game where more than one human is involved results rather sooner than later in such conducts, no matter which genre or type. A thing which spoils the fun of a game, even in games where it is intended because the average human tries to find the "I Win"-Button and will use it again and again, ignoring the fact that there are other strategies or ways to win which may be a bit more complicated, but funnier and more interesting. Just disgusting, yet human nature.
That's why I don't like MMO and why I don't want to see X or a similar game from Egosoft in an MMO-format. ^^

There was an "I Win" button in City of Heroes - for developer use only, but you could see the stats on it. We can actually use something like it when testing our own missions.A thing which spoils the fun of a game, even in games where it is intended because the average human tries to find the "I Win"-Button and will use it again and again.

Anyway....
The only multiplayer I would like to see is some sort of star battle setup. Drop the boron home shipyard in Kingdom End and give it to one player, give the argon home shipyard in Cloudbase SE to the other player. Each player gets N credits worth of ships (picked out and outfitted offline) already built and waiting for them in their home sector. All other stations and ships removed. Remove the south gate in Cloudbase SW, all gates in President's End, and the east gate in Kingdom End. SETA turned off. First person to lose their starbase loses the battle.
As for a persistent online world... no. I had enough of that with Trade Wars, thanks.

What I'd like to see in a future X3 game is more of a Sims 2 touch. (Or maybe Sims 3, but I never played Sims 3, so I can't really say.) The idea is to be able to jump from profile to profile within a single save, in the same way you can jump from house to house in Sims 2 and have your other creations/families being AI controlled, characters.
The general idea is the AI takes over the unactive profiles and makes all the assets respawnable and the pilots unbailable. In this fashion the unactive profile doesn't get it's assets destroyed/deleted. And none of the unactive profile's ships get deleted or acquired by the active profile. But, the active profile could still interfere with the profits and loot the cargo of the unactive profiles, if they so chose to do so.
There would be no real purpose for it, I just think it would be a nice, sandbox type of addition to the game. It would add a "Personal universe" type of thing....
And with that aspect already in place, one could then share a save file with another and play in a turn based manner. Nothing competitive, just something as an added feature/possibility...

So you only want to be able to own 1 ship, not being able to build stations, not having a real economy?Reaves_42 wrote:Freelancer was online and is still a damn good game.
Perhaps Egosoft can follow that path?

X is way to complex to just "cut it down" to FL. Even O-Game is better than that.

The only viable online way for X3 would be...
- No SETA
- All players are on the same team.
- You can only climb into a ship that is not currently under another player's control.
- Global money account for all players.
- Game hosted on multiple servers - one for each sector, with a master to keep accounts and accounting.
- Limited to about 30 players per universe. If everybody went to same sector, that server would overload.
- Dog fights would be problematic like that of Descent 2 and 3 online. Probably best done on server under auto-pilot.
If another player decides to destory player assets, he only destroys his own team's assets. Player vs player could still happen in dogfights for king of the sector rights. Preferably played hard-core.

Yes, a minority, but 25% is not a negligible one.Nanook wrote:And once again, the poll numbers reveal this to be a falsehood. There is a loud minority that do want it, but as your poll is once again showing, it is a minority. Always has been.NUKLEAR-SLUG wrote:...

I voted "I wouldn't like it", but for none of the reasons N_C mentioned! I can cope with the DiD idea and the persistent universe concept and have been playing a DiD game for a while - not a long while, I am not very good at the early stages of playing X - but I have made several attempts to get going.
No, what I don't like is the idea that any Thomas, Richard or Harold might turn up and yell "u suxxor!" at me. (I know - pretty unlikely given the current state of X fandom and the great people on this forum, but create an X MMOG and I fear things would change.)
I quite like the idea of multiplayer, especially of the "invitation to my X Universe" type. A few LAN buddies, a few light beers, a few station defence missions - that's fun.
Perhaps N_S needs to create a new poll to include the alternative. The votes might be a bit different that way.

As CBJ mentioned countless times, a Lan based MP ist not feasable. You need the extra income from MMOG to support the development of the Game for MP. As you don't just add it "on the side".
You can look up the quote to this in the countless MP topics. (no don't go and search topics made by CBJ, it may break the forum

I know financially it's a no-no. I'm just saying thats how you beat the minority of players.
Nothing good can come from an X MMO however, coop would be acceptable.
Ideally some sort of coop expansion pack would do nicely. say £15-£20 which then adds coop play. That gives you development support. Technically I'm not sure how it would workout, I remember someone going on about it if that was CBJ.

I highly doubt that Egosoft's owners are going to base their financial future on a 25% minority, especially since a lot of the majority simply wouldn't play a multiplayer X-based game. Most of us are here because we like the single player experience, otherwise, we'd be over at EVE-Online.vbruzual wrote:Yes, a minority, but 25% is not a negligible one.Nanook wrote:And once again, the poll numbers reveal this to be a falsehood. Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

Then take into account that there is competition for the space MMO.Nanook wrote:I highly doubt that Egosoft's owners are going to base their financial future on a 25% minority, especially since a lot of the majority simply wouldn't play a multiplayer X-based game. I voted no ,for all of the above reasons.
However ,a co-operative multi-player game, such as the SMP group are experimenting with atm, but adjusted by Ego to allow each player to compete with, rather than destroy other players assets etc ...Now THAT would get my interest. Each player having his own set of stats showing Trade/Race relations etc.

Browser based game could work.
Chuck in some mini games too. Way off topic... make a compilation of (good) X themed mini-games for the Wii to rake in tons of moneys!
