By seeing the numbers there, Kestrels won 7 out of 10 matches, although one of them was very close, with only 5 kestrels surviving the battle.

Recently I have been playing in my Mamba Raider while I direct my minions. Some of the things I have noticed are: ships larger than an M6 seem to get practically no use out of cockpit mounted guns, i.e. my Ocelot (Cadius mod split M7 with only turrets 8ISR front, 4IBL L and R) is much more effective than my Tiger, even though the Tiger has much more firepower.

The M6's really need to be fast to evade fire. I have a H Nemesis (124m/s) H Hydra (138m/s) Skiron (145m/s) HCP (154m/s) and Hyperion (169m/s) The H Hydra is barely fast enough, and the H Nemesis is waiting to be sold due to it taking too much damage all the time. I would wager that if Wildjames had gone with all Skirons (same shields same offensive firepower) the result would have been different. And the cost would be about the same. This might also mean a faster light corvette may be more effective per credit than a heavy one, i.e. how would same credit amount of Dragons fair vs Aro?

Very interesting on the results of the Oddy and Kessie wars, I would not have expected that, seeing how many times i died in the blue shock wave, lol

Wow. And in no victory round did she come out scratchless. O.O

Lesson learned. Zerg tactics for the win. :D

I have a question:

Would that kestrel strategy work against Khaak destroyers? I used a carrier with escorts in Final Fury, and had to pull away the fighters once they closed into the destroyers, as their shields/hulls began going down pretty fast (Lost 3-4 out of 30 Scimitars in a few seconds, before i retreated them)

11th run: Just added in the 96 pelicans to attack, frame rate just about okay, getting them on target quickly enough to engage with the kestrels is a problem, result 83 pelican survived and 151 kestrel.

Numbers game !! 250mil would have got me 600 kestrel and 150 pelican. I’m too late to join. But sounds like rules are gonna change for round 2 anyway.

Fighter drones on mass are deadly. But I’ve discovered that the kestrel on mass does the same job, superpowered drone, 5M shield, 4 guns, upto 600m/s, dodges everything, doesn’t run out of energy.

Average. C2D 3.3GHz, HD4870, 4Gb RAM. Dunno why the OP has such bad framerates with his monster rig. The Oddy Vs Kestrels is a simple setup though, might be it.

Don't forget: 1 Oddy with this outfit is hardly more worth than 130mil ;) That's enough air to field 2 more M7; lessay 1 Panther + 1 Deimos + some M5s. If the Panther is equipped with PALCs it can do a fair amout of damage not to forget that the Deimos can mount PSGs as well.
Even if we consider the inability of mounting IBLs in main batteries, the combined firepower of 1 Oddy + 1 Panther is considerable. Would be great idea for XFF II. Add a few fighters with heavy torpedos you get a nice little fleet and I have decent name for it: TerrorCorps. Peasants Of Old Pagans.

The problems TJ probably has is the fact that he does not only lets the safe run, but he has also to record it with FRAPS at a very high resolution while compressing the data to fit on an ordinary HDD.

The result of the skirmish between one Oddy and several hundred superfast M5 didn't surprise me a bit.

Now, seeing that missiles are just waste of money, I'll go for pure fighter and big ships next time, and pure Paranid. :D

But missles are fired. Though I will use even less money on those in XFF II. Maybe a few heavy torps and Wasps. I consider more guns than slots on caps will have more effect.

I'm pretty sure the cost of 1 fully outfitted Oddy would be enough to field 3 Deimos hulls, after outfitting it's probably closer to 2 1/2. While I would take 3 Deimos instead of 1 Oddy the main danger with multiple PSG platforms is the damage from friendly fire. Perhaps the Aggy should be allowed for XFF II for added PSG ability?

Out of all the fleets there are only 4 with PSG platforms, since GCU Grey Area's Deimos are based on Kariudo Haulers rather than actual Deimos so no PSG's.

AV: 1 Odysseus (Magmoor)
CJ: 1 Deimos (Shikamettzura no Oni)
007bradz: 1 Deimos (Name Unknown)
DS: 1 Deimos (Dead's Realm)

I look foward to AV's, CJ's, and 007's fights since they are going up against varying numbers of fighters. As for my fight, both TS and I didn't make much use of fighters so it's more of a cap battle.

We were really seeing how an Oddy with max loadout of PSG would fare against a massed fighter attack. The Oddy was spectacular with huge plumes of blue death engulfing the whole ship most of the time, I think it did pretty good, 3 /10 it wiped out 380 kestrels. Never seen PSG before, most impressive.

Odd that the results were so variable. Sounds like a fair bit of luck is involved with these fights.

Add note: When I first saw the 24 PSG in action I expected all the fighters to die, and when they arrive in small waves that’s exactly what happenes. Its when they arrive en masse encircling the Oddy the picture changes, from what I saw it looked like the fighters formed a shell at max PAC range, with tracer fire hitting the Oddy from all directions. Was it collision detection keeping the fighters in a symmetrical pattern at long range or what? The thing is, when the Oddy won the battles, I noticed that the fighters failed to get their act together forming a nice tight attack pattern around the Oddy.

Yeah, that's the first thing one has to learn. Nothing is sure, everything depends on luck. So will my fight against Emperor and every other.

@TJ Have you oc'ed your CPU to see if it makes a difference?

He'd have much better results from lowering graphic quality down than messing about trying to overclock. Setting shaders to medium and turning of AA tends to provide a large boost for a start and as someone else said, change res to 1080 if that's the highest that's going to be used for videos.

Less stress on the system to start with and probably wind up better quality too since you're going to have to compress the video down to that size anyway.

Ouch, fell halfway down page 2!

Re: Ozkar's comment a few pages up, I've imagined the same thing - the Ospreys are probably just too slow. Even if a PALC is a guaranteed hit, it won't be a solid hit against a fast target because it won't remain steadily in the laser beam.

Dragon bombers for the win, perhaps? If you have them accompanied by a powerful enough flak platform you've potentially got a pretty deadly combo. To that end, a dragon/tiger or dragon/panther fleet could be quite capable.

The Murderblossom is of course another option, but... I have certain morals... ish.

Incidentally, I officially copyright the dragon/tiger fleet for XFFII. :D

I too had the feeling that the heavy Osprey just wasn't fast enough. An M6 with the high speed of Split M7 would probably make more damage since the M7 hardly used their IBLs at all.

Would rather have a full Panther fleet but decided to add the Tigers since nobody used them. Same reason why the PALCs are there.
Though I find they work great, esp when fighting the Khaak (I kills you with irony!).

If Plasma Beam Cannons were allowed it would have been a fleet of pirate ships...

Anyone know of a free video editor? I need to cut out 6 minutes of video before I can upload the file to Youtube. The editor must be able to accept .avi that is encoded in Xvid. (This is where Windows Movie Maker fails, it can't use .avi's encoded in Xvid)

Why not just use Windows to edit the video down to size before you encode it in Xvid?

OK, here my ideas:

1. Free video editor: Cinefx (http://www.cinefx.org, formerly jahshaka). Last time I used it was about two years ago, so following may not be true anymore, however: It's a bit strange to use, because it behaves totally different from any other video editor I used so far. But after I managed to use it, it was a really great editor. (Now I have also linux running on my PC, there is another editor called cinelerra, which also gives great results).

2. You could use ffmpeg to convert your video to wmv or whatever you want. Windows GUI also available, called WinFF (http://winff.org). Can definitely read avi/Xvid.

3. If you had an ATI graphics card, you could use avivo to convert the video really fast to another format, however I do not know whether such a tool is also available for nvidia cards (possibly yes), and I do not know, whether it is capable of reading xvid (possibly no).

PS. yes, I'm still reading this, although I didn't post anything for a while now. Waiting for the videos.

Or use Virtual Dub . Lightweight frontend of Avisynth and able to smartencode + open source.
