I can't seem to be able to download this, the download starts, then it downloads at some poor speed such as 1.5k/s and then says it is done a few seconds after that. It turns out it never even downloaded 1mb and the file is corrupt.
Flipping Heck! Most of the olde posts and links on the forum dont ether work or are now dead links!! Flipping irritating! The Model View is currupt and you need to upload it to a safe site like Mediafile or whatever! Getting pretty annoying now. I want to create and design, convert and modify the X-Universe....but the tools to do so are not available now! Urgh...
@ exogenesis: Many thanks for this very excellent tool and its facilities.
For big ships in the viewer, it is sometimes difficult to see their turret arcs of fire which go outside the bounds of even a full-page viewer screen, Is there any zoom out/scroll capability built in please?
Was there ever a way of linking the show guns screen model to the turret/bank weapon mount number(s), ie to see which gun is in mount No 1 and so on?
I have a little problem (it is only an annoying problem).
Whenever I load the viewer I have to point it to game directory everytime. It says it can't find the directory and has all these wierd chinese (or something like that) characters at the top of the little dialog box.
I point it to my game, C:/prog files/steam/X3TC... blah blah
The program works fine from then. If it is an issue with being in the steam folders I don't know.
Just wanted to let you know. I don't know if there is a way to force the program to remember where it's supposed to be pointing but like I said, it isn't that big of a deal.

I installed the 3D viewer to X3:TC file, and get an error " Unable to locate component- App failed to start because d3dx9_29.dll was not found. " I tried re-installing but get same msg.
Thanks if you can help me with this.

So the viewer shouldn't be asking for that _29 dll version.
However, since it is...
here's that dll, try putting it where the viewer exe is
Thinking further -
are you sure you're installing the viewer version 2.0.0.2,
and not some earlier version ? - that might cause this behaviour.
i got the same message as surferx, down loaded the "d3dx9_29.dll" thingy
and now i get

the applicatication or DLL I:\program Files\XModelsViewer\d3dx9_29.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please chexk
thus against your installation diskette.
redownloaded a number of times still says the same thing. any ideas

I'm using the Viewer 2.0.0.2 with Vista x64 and the dll in the folder which works correctly is the d3dx9_37.dll. However, that folder is in Programs (x86) and not in Programs. I see you are using drive I anyway.
Thanks Terre. I have a scroll wheel on my PS/2 mouse, but it doesn't zoom the model picture (2.0.0.2) I'm afraid.
I did find a work around though. Tile 2 model pictures on screen, one the target big ship and the other the Aran, then select show to scale. Shrinks the target a bit!

Strange. The wheel works on my machine for zooming and several others I have run the viewer on. Have you a mouse driver installed that has maybe reassigned the wheel's function from the standard Windows scroll function?
Thanks Terre and Roadrunner12, I found my mouse driver was set to 'enhanced scroll' (which did nowt!) and when reset to default it works fine to zoom viewer. Thanks again - all I need now is gun mount numbering and I'm well fixed.
A whole load of posts at once, I didn't get email notification at all, oh well.
Glad you got the mouse scroll sorted.
Still unsure what causes that loss of 'X3 directory' thing.
The registryentry seems to go missing for some reason.
I think the d3dx9_27 thing is an effect not a cause, _37 is the correct one,
but maybe try moving/copying it to your windows\system32 folder (or whatever it should be).
Turret mount-number, hmm, not sure where the info could be shown.
there's not much space left in the stats/indicators/controls window,
pobably have to expand to two lines per turret.
I also would like to show the weapons firing & looking like they do in-game,
(assuming that's what you mean), but probably this would need proper ES shader rendering,
which I've never got working correctly yet (at least the light parameters).

tryed sticking it in the viewer folder then and then in the windows(could not find one called system32) and both said it was a bad Bad lmage

Not sure if you can just add a random dll to the DirectX subsystem by copying the file accross into the system folders like that. Try downloading this update, extracting the zip, and then running the dxsetup in the install folder. It contains updates for all the d3dx9_xx.dll files. Works for me whenever I have this problem with Direct 3D applications.

Just a thought, but you use colored lines to show the direction of fire from each of the front guns and guns in turrets in the 'show guns' model. Well could you set the colour of the line according to its mount number in the turret or bank? eg Gun 1 line is always red, gun 2 line is always yellow, etc. You would need 10 colours/shades at the most and just a key for gun line colours is then needed in one of the windows. Just a thought.
