Good to see you're back.

Sorry about the computer, what exactly happened if you don't mind me asking? Unless the HD is physically destroyed there's gotta be some way to get the information back...nobody else has a copy of the code? when I first read you were missing I looked on your site hoping there would be a source and saw Tensin mentioned for help with the ship creator, he doesn't have anything that might help? No older versions backed up so there's at least the basic code?

On the bright side, you can get a beast of a computer for pennies now.

my brother was accused of a crime, and as a result the police raided my house and took all my equipment, and are now refusing it give it back for at least a year

so i have no access to any of it.

i did have the source code backed up and on my web server, but unfortuatlly they've all been taken as well.

at least i have an older version of the file format coding on another server which will give me abit of a start

Oh, sorry  , I expected some kind of computer trouble I'd have an idea how to fix.

I can't program my way out of a paper bag, but anything I can help with...if there's a bug, I'll encounter it in testing (murphy's law follows me like that) and pinpoint just what the problem is.(I eventually figured out that problem I was having with 2.12 and tracked it down to my file system and how it was installed being messy)

 possible future feature: using the plugin approach to adding new sectors to the universe.xml so one could make new sectors individually and be merged together

That sux man! Very srry about the problems. Unfortunately, when the police are involved your at the mercy of their timing. Regardless, most happy your back online here. As a community here I'm sure between everyone we can help you get back some of the stuff you lost (as long as thats okay legally?).

It should not be necessary for the Police to retain your property for an extended period of time. I do not know what you do in RL but there are common laws that should help you get your equipment back if you can show that they are "tools of your trade". The tools would include, things you have made like scripts that help you in coding so being able to retrieve them would require the return of your computer equipment. Stealing the "tools of ones trade" is still considered rather serious, even if it was done leagally. Talk to the DA or whatever they are called across the pond about it. The Police do tend to be a bit more heavy handed than is necessary.

On another note, not just for you, as it always happens to us eventually. CVS of your choice, rsync, kron, and an offsite storage facility, preferrably with backup ALWAYS! I am saying this as people, not just you, tend to listen a bit more closely when someone has been seriously burned. BTW my finger hurts from hear, specially since you didnot burn yourself.

Don't expect to get it back and even if you get it back it will be scrap.
That is how it is here and also suspect in other countries.

But out of Curiosity why did they steal your equipment instead of your brothers equipment or do you live in the same house?

well i best get it all back and in working condition, especially considering how much its all worth.

basically everything in the house was taken, they didn't care whos it was.
and they didn't care that i needed it for work.

they did take alot of stuff, including a brand new pc that hadn't even been finished building, 4 other pcs, 5 laptops, including my mums school laptop. My blackberry was taken as well, so im not paying a contract for a phone i cant even use. My mp3 players, and all cameras and all spare computer parts were also taken, they even took my fridge for some reason, all my games consoles and games, my dvd player ,etc

This account has exceeded it's bandwidth quota and has been temporarily disabled.

Also what version do I need to have installed to get the cheat menu to come up. I have the 2.0a installed will it still show up. I have changed my pilot name to: Thereshallbewings and I still can find the SE. What am I doing wrong here?

Also, can I still download the Enterprise or any other Star Trek ships? Please help me here?

Its on my download site, link off my signature.

That usually means you got the name change wrong. Either the capital T was lowercase, or you typed in 2 l's but only 1 of them got put in and you didnt check. If the game didnt stop dead and then your original name get returned, it didnt work, try again.

If you did get it right, your probably looking in the wrong place.

The cheat menu is on your ship menu, not in the SE. Open ship menu, look for the last entry, open that and the cheat menu should be there.
Also, can I still download the Enterprise or any other Star Trek ships? Please help me here?
No. The TC version doesnt support ships. And since the source code has been lost, it wont until rewritten. In the meantime, look for a mod that has what you want.

I also tried

Post by Maliki »

to find the other SPK that I had and when I went into the installer and went to the program files/Egosoft/ etc. folder it wouldn't find the exe file. Kept telling me that the x2/x3 exe file was not found. What am I doing wrong here? And another question. I have the version 2.0a patch installed should I have the 1.4 instead or will it work with the 2.0a? This is very frustrating. Sorry about all the questions here.

And when I tried to get the SE to come up with the following:

1. change pilot name to: Thereshallbewings
2. ding
3. tried to hit S..C..S
4. no response with the S key.

Please advise.

And thanks in advance.

Version 2.20 Beta 6 works with X3:TC version 2.0a , in fact ive had *touch wood* no random close downs of the program installing scripts since i installed 2.0a

the installer package asks you for an install location, and should drop 4 icons on your desktop.
Plugin Manager Installer
Plugin Manager Packager
Plugin Manager Ship Creator
Plugin Manager SPK Explorer

as i understand it the ship creator doesnt currently work, any you shouldnt need either the Packager or the SPK explorer, so you could probably delete those shortcuts. That leaves you with the Installer. Doubl click that should take you into another setup routine, where it asks for the location of your TC directory and the default language. once that has all been set correctly, double clicking on any spk file should auto matically open the installer, and you should then get a message saying that 'such and such' script has been installed with an ok button. selecting that and then the exit button, will close the installer, but the installer should have done its magic and made the script available in game.
so next step start up the game and load you save. then press p, p, and scroll to the bottom to see if you have the modified tag.

Normally when initialising the script editor the game can freeze up to about 30 seconds. Also are you trying to do it while in space or when docked? as i only ever seem to be able to get it to work while im in space.

Another thing to try, start a new game, and see if the script editor will activate if its the first thing you do when you gain control of your ship.

Hi has this been mentioned b4? 35 pages is no joke!

On Vista64, XPMInstaller crashes once in a whle if I hit Exit, [X] or Exit in the menu. Both the normal or no socket version, either in Admin mode or not.

It crashes at "Preparing Game Space" or something like that upon exiting. It happens once in a while not everytime.

I've also noticed that either the Packager or the Installer will sometimes create bad SPKs or it unpacks but the resultant files are corrupt/in binary instead of ascii text. Perhaps it's related to the above crashing problem or is a result of that, but I did some tests and the Installer's Extract Scripts command will unpack "bad" files (ie binary gibberish) if the SPK is "bad".

Yes, I think all that gets mentioned on every page ! Usually more than once.

The program is more stable when you load it off the start menu and then select an spk, than if you double click an spk or try to load the spk without downloading first.

I know others reported the same (or similar) issues I just was trying to give a bit more detail as to what I did when it occured in an effort to help Cycrow pinpoint the issue or at least get enough info so he/she could attempt to track the issue down a bit more easily...:p
