Unless you specifically told it not to do so, I think it should update automatically. Once it actually comes out, anyway. It's still not on Steam so I'm guessing we'll have to wait until Tuesday. (That's when it was supposed to come out anyway, actually.)

Make sure you have set the game to auto-update in its properties. Then wait. Steam will, eventually, update your installation.

Steam in some weird off-world language is equal to lazy or procrastination. If the company that wrote the patch releases early and gives you the go ahead, you release early so your customers arn't excluded.

This has been another example of Bad business practices by Steam brought to you by Myself.

Dont use steam, ever.

Edit: But buy X3 in mass quantities because its the best space sim out there by FAR

Steam would have recieved the patch from Egosoft on Friday afternoon or evening US time, so the delay over the weekend is understandable. They've been having some server issues over the weekend (the first time I've seen Steam go down like that, and I've had it since launch, so please no insults to them there), and I'm guessing that their focus today (Monday) was on making the servers stable again, rather than patching games.

The server seems to be holding now, so I'd expect them to release the game sometime tomorrow morning (US time).

It's not really Steam's fault that they're so slow with this. You can't expect much more when you are sent unexpected updates on a Friday evening. While I understand that this patch was released early due to unique conditions, I have to ask why previous patches have been released on Friday afternoons by Egosoft. If you waited until Monday, Valve would update it quickly and everyone would be happy. If Egosoft just waited a few more days to release patches, noone would complain and the release could be almost synchronous.

Please do not turn this thread into another steam bashing thread. There's a perfectly good thread available for you to discuss any issues about the steam patch.

Nothing against you RiSkE but,

1. Thu, 2. Apr 09, 10:32 is the time and date toastie posted the update.
2. I've left my computer on steam this past weekend(even when out and about) with no disconnections or even hints at server unstability
3. Dont even try to put this on egosoft, US retailers released early so they responded ACCORDINGLY. Steam did not.

The matter is this. They recieved the update on thrusday, maybe to late to touch it until friday (because of difference of my time zone to theirs), but then they all got into a meeting of 2 of them (because thats all the people that work there, obviously according to how they handle customer service) discussed over a period of friday (the entire workday) that they would go ahead and release on the day they originally were instructed to do so, even though people would have this data 4 days prior to them releasing it.

I really dont care what you think the circumstances are, I can understand the cost/benefit of not having somebody working on the weekends, but to not get it out monday is where I have the problem, and why X3 TC will continue to be the only game purchased from steam on my account.

All im illustrating is this: They didn't want to put in the effort to get it out as it was available. If its released tomorrow, it will reflect my statement on the nose.

Edit: My apologies eladan, i was posting as you posted.

This is my last off-topic post, and then I'll be quiet.

Which timezone is this? I assumed that the patch was released on a Friday as before, but if Steam did have time to respond, then I take back my last.

In my timezone (+10 UTC), at least, I get:

The Steam servers have kept Steam (the software) running, but the community servers, webpage and the friends service have been running intermittently all weekend.

I was very careful to say that there were special circumstances this time. I do not blame the delay of this particular patch on Egosoft or on Steam. It was clearly the US shops that released it early who are at fault, and I am glad that Ego decided to release the patch early. It was quite heartening to see that the patch was not scheduled for release on a Friday, so it looks like Ego and Valve are starting to cooperate a little more.

I dont think the hotfix needed to be applied to the steam version from what I've read however I might be wrong. Correct me if I am, and thats where I got my time from the original release. At any rate WOO 2.0 ships, sectors, more things to blow up, UTs are supposedly working, what more could I want right? woo :)

I formally apologize to all who are tired of hearing me rant about steam. Im tired of hearing myself. You guys are gentlemen and scholars :) Not one person tried forum murdering me. :)

New patch: Whoopee!
I'm using Steam: Damn...

On a related issue:
If Egosoft were to release a DRM-removing patch, would the activation limit be removed from Steam as well?

What activation limit on Steam? I've not encountered anything of the sort.

Look at the right sidebar under Game Details.

I look at the delay this way: we owners of X3TC on Steam get an extra week to rake in the profits from Build missions. :P

As I understand it, they would remove the TAGES protection from both steam and DVD releases, which means that yes, it would remove the need for activation.

Hate to really sound like a <bleep>, but have the AI been run through basic spaceflight school and some combat classes? The AI is so bone-headed, I wouldnt even fly with wingmen because 75% of the time they'd ram into me without SETA getting somewhere, let alone their desire to ram into my ship when in combat...

Did Steam release the 2.0 update? Or are they still sleeping in their beds?

From the Steam Thread (I think it probably deserves capitalization now) but buried rather deeply:
BurnIt! wrote:I'm sorry it wasn't possible to release the update on Steam at the same time as on the website.

We've been trying to make this happen and prepared everything but a number of circumstances led to some inevitable delays:

Everything was set to go, but we had to stop the Steam release because of the 2.0a hotfix. We're not going to deploy the "glow bug" version via Steam obviously.
So we had to make sure they can integrate the fixed version into the update which requires additional time.
This and staff availability means that the update cannot be deployed before next monday.

We realize you are unhappy about this delay and apologize for the inconvenience but we can assure you that you are not missing out on any of the features of 2.0 because of this.
(Emphasis mine.)

Please keep discussion about it in that thread.

That's OK, I'll just turn Steam off for another week then.

Thank you very much for keeping us posted and I'm looking forward to the 2.0a release.

This might be mentioned already but you should let the XFire doods know about 2.0, my XFire won't work in TC with the update.

You're best off contacting them yourself. ES can't be expected to contact every manufacturer/toolmaker to inform them of new releases on the off-chance that someone may use their product with TC and encounter a problem.
