Steam Launch of Patch...When is this going to happen? (A. Now!)
Anyone have a clue when steam plans to launch the patch? I thought for sure they'd have it by now launched the game today and nothing yet. Bummer!

Suppose to be ready for today ..... if you believe steams comments they say it was only delivered to them friday and no one works at the weekend for them. So there wouldn't be any tech around over the weekend .....
Little thing bothers me about no techs being around at a weekend especially when you consider its probably there highest usage times.
Think its time to take up golf reckon I can get as good as Tiger between now and egosoft/steam getting it together.

Patches and updates on Steam are always released on weekdays for both Valve and non-Valve games.
Most Steam users leave Steam running whenever they have their PC on, so having the patches released on weekdays makes sense because they are less likely to be playing their games then. Obviously you can't play a game while it's being updated so for most of their users this is more convenient.
That and it gives the techs their weekend off.
It does occasionally cause problems with developers that work on a different schedule, which is what is happening in this case.

No, in this case Steam are doing exactly what they were asked to do. The problem here is that retailers in the US released the new game earlier than they were supposed to have done.paul1290 wrote:

All things considered what day generaly do patches come out........?
What day did the us retailers start selling?
What day was the patch actualy ready?
When was the patch suposed to be released?
Would that have gave steam enough time to fire up the boiler in time to have it up before Easter holls?
I know this is not ES fault per say but it is time for a re-think i.e. the next patch should be available direct from here AND steam (obviously compatable for the steam version).

i believe EGo cannot put steam patch on their server. there has to be a signed agreement. and i think they cannot tell people how to put a update to steam install because this might bring em trouble. even tho im 10000% sure they know exactly how to do it. preserving the copy protection of course. i think there is legal issues.
they most likely gave the update to steam on friday, and it is probablly sitting in a inbox waiting for some lazy arse steam technicial to put it on their servers. that can take up to 10 days (based on previous experience in this game with steam)
so i think this might take another week. depending on steam willing to do their part of course.
i got to the point that i have NO RESPECT for steam service or its employees anymore. (just in case i respect people that still have some for then)

We have been told that ES, publishers and steam are aware of the problems, yet we see debauchal after debauchal (SP?).
This subject cant be doing our fave developers any good, but it is going to continue to annoy customers (justified or not) and generate (deserved or not) bad press.
Like I have said I can wait but understand the feelings of others.
This instance was quite unpredictable but there should have been a plan B.
Ok so you (people who can change things) are reading and know about what this means to your busness and you say you are not just ignoring the problem.
So what is going to change next time? People are cross because not enough has changed so far and worse you havnt told us what you are going to do about it.
I am waiting for 2.1 and if it isnt ready on time and on steam on time I will be typing most annoyed in the style of Veruca Salt i.e. 'MY DADDY SAID........." and not only that but I will cry.
Jokes aside this is as bad as the poor choice as the inclusion of Starforce in days gone buy.........
Ironicaly enough AFAIA without the copyright protection issues i.e. the different EXE. then this problem wouldnt exist (correct me by all means), and ultimately no matter what you spend on copy protection it will be broken by pirates.
Negative credits or self destruct was enough to deter interlectual property theft, so is it not time to stop wasting money in developement on this area?

this is not a topic for talking about piracy and if they are or not succesful,
the issue is NOT about the protections, never been, and i am in egosoft side regarding the protection of copyrighted content.
this is a distribuition problem, (in this case)
some publisher went ahead and did something they were not suppose to do (launch of the game earlier), and i am pretty sure the people at egosoft might be doing their best to get the situation fixed. if they dont say anything so far is because a good reason, it is NOT in their hands to fix it, the can only do some presure on steam to get things rolling, other than that they cannot force or publish the patch for steam users.
there is many grays in here, most of then are legal ones.
(please let stay in topic)

Keep the discussion of piracy and copy protection out of this thread or it will be locked.

The problem here and correct me if I am wrong is the EXE. for the 2 different patch formats are incompatable because of different copy protection.
Had they been the same or not existed then there wouldnt have been a problem i.e. If steam are late then the user can get it here as a registered owner and user.
This is still all on topic and safe to say...........It just took more words for me to get off my orange box first time
.....And I did start to give my opinion on a broader topic
No intended gray trampling for me.

Is that better Nanook?
I was rephrasing as you posted.
It in no way supports illegal activity nor is piracy advocated.
I would ask you to let me delete my own posts if this is not to your complete satisfaction.

Steam has its own copy protection/activation in addition to anything added by the original publisher (Deepsilver, in this case, NOT Egosoft). This has to be added to the exe, as I understand it. However, the real problem is the early release by a number of RETAILERS, which triggered an early release of the patch by Egosoft. However, Steam is still apparently on the original timetable, so if you have a problem with that, it's Steam who you should be complaining to, since Egosoft has no say whatsoever in their operations, beyond pleading.

Agree with Nanook. The release date was today (7/4/2009) and has been that since 19/2 - there is probably a legal contract to that effect. If Steam doesn't release the patch today, then you have cause to complain and Steam would probably find themselves in breach of contract.
Either way, despite the fact that it is out of their hands, Egosoft has probably done everything they can to move the release forward on Steam.
