Yeah, that's what I was going for. Personally I thought it made for quite a fitting ending..

Unfortunately previous narrow squeaks seem to have encouraged the notion I was going to get out of this one too so I thought the last post might cement the point a bit better, even if it doesn't quite end the story as sweetly.

Let Squiddy Jr. buy freighters, but only the basic models, and no buying additional shields for them... you have to manufacture them, or steal them :twisted:

or, go the other way - no manufacturing, requiring you to stimulate the game engine into manufacturing all the good you need, much more challenging. :roll:

or...... Squiddy Jr. can buy ships, but no shields, or weapons, forcing him to get into manufacturing his equipment quite early, unless he wants to die horribly at the hands of the sector patrols.

I'm all for one of Squiddy's illegitemate squiddlets taking over the family name... "I'm not the Dread Pirate Roberts, the original Dread Pirate Roberts retired years ago..." Won't those Split freak out if some missile happy Boron calling himself Squiddy shows up and starts nipping their ships again... "Dang, I was sure we killed him!" :twisted:

As I found myself yesterday, its the little mistakes you make that get you killed.

Squiddy's seems to have been using the wrong ship for the wrong mission.

Mine yesterday was as simple as getting out of my ship to do a repair and not noticing the auto-aim was turned off when I got back in. Turned out to be terminal. :(

My condolences, NS. This was a brilliant story.

Pretend McSquid staged hisy own death in order to escape the authorities.
Put him into the Hub and play the game entirely through remote commands with whatever assets are left.

Fantastic story. But like all the best stories should, it ended before it outstayed its welcome. Thanks NS.

Anyway, I swung by Kingdom End earlier and there was a whole lot of wailing and flapping of tentacles going on. Flags (or at least something dangly) at half-mast, octopi dribbling ink down the street, that sort of thing. I think, had Squiddy not been deep-fried already, there'd have been one hell of a celebratory BBQ.

In honour of the great, er, sea creature, I'm about to start a DiD game, and see if i can stay alive till bedtime.

And in my main game my Springblossom - currently going by the name 'Paradise Ganked' - has acquired the moniker 'Bitch...'. Seems somehow fitting.

I've been an avid follower of this story from the start and, without exaggeration, I'd have to say that I'd rate it as one of the best reads in the history of the forum. That's no small achievement on a forum as large as this one. Great story, great writing, great ending. Thanks!

I agree with CBJ make Squiddy 2 even better than the original!

(Just don't be like movies and make the squeal suck for no reason but with you talent for writing and spectacular money losing skills I dont think we will have that problem! :roll: )

So the final post was more of an Epilogue, I think that is quite fitting.

For your next adventure, you seem 'opportunistic', so how about playing a no-factories game? You'd be all about building up the universe economy to supply yourself with enough goods-weapons-missiles. That would be even more of a challenge. I'd think that type of game would definitely include heavy mobile mining and ST/UTs, otherwise you'd go nuts managing 20-30 MORTs :star:

If you want something truly insanely difficult, Unholy Traitor is the way to go. It gives you a great ship to start with, but both Split AND Paranid hate you 100% and send hordes of bounty hunters your way. You've got six PBEs, but only 5MJ of shields, and no fight MK2. PBEs without auto aim = worthless.

Ofcourse, that would probably be a really short story... (I've never made it out of the first sector in seven tries, though a few peeps on the spoiler forum seem to have been able to get going. It really depends mightily on where the start spawns you.)
Once you manage to get away from the bounty hunters, it's easy sailing from there on out I think, since you've already got an M3. Easy to cap bigger fish with that, right?


Btw, it's pretty ironic that for all your worry and care when you started and had little shields and hull to protect you, you finally die when you've got 3GJ of shields around your butt. :)

We shall miss you, Squiddy.
