The stock game has a set of script files named '*autotrade*'. With the Trade Mk3 upgrade in ship, they offer you the Sector Trader/Local Trader/Universal Trader command. That is the stock UT implementation.BugMeister wrote:- would tontonfred fare better if he switched off Trade Software Mk3 in his EST config..??
EST has entirely different set of files with entirely different implementation. They clearly separate configuration from operation. And there are two implementations for configuration: manual and automatic. You do enable the automatic configuration routine by adding the Trade Mk3 extension. EST with Trade Mk3 does behave differently from stock UT.
I got the impression that the auto-configuration routine was not optimal on the earlier versions (alpha/beta) of EST, but has changed since. Anyway, it all boils down to the question:
Can the player manually limit the ship to trade set of wares in specific area more efficiently than the automatic routine does?
wyvern11 did that in the X3R economy.
Another followup question is:
Is the manual configuration by player so much more efficient, that it beats the convenience of simply starting the auto-mode?
That is very much up to the player. Some love micro-management, and some do not.
