[Mod] Complete Station Info Unlocks

Post by TheVillageIdiot »

G'day Fellow X Rebirth players,

Just a little mod i threw together during the weekend after having a little look at some of the files.

This mod simply makes a few changes to the unlocks.xml file which, after scanning just 1 nfo tag on a station... will then proceed to unlock all the rest on that station. - No need to fly around searching for all of them.

There is, however, one caveat. I was too busy ( playing the game :p ) to finish trying out some adjustments - and the current computer i'm using doesn't have X Rebirth installed. So, currently this mod doesn't unlock the "secret" areas of a station.

I know this... because for some stations the Unlocked % stops at a certain value - and never reaches 100%.

I would like to ask someone to have a play around with 2 values for me... and get back to us.

Code: Select all

			<secrecy max="0" />
			<scan level="0" />

Change the "Secrecy" value in the file - to say... 100... - then rescan a station that you know never got to 100% when using the mod. That's my main concern atm. And if you happen to find out what "scan level" does.. then awesome. :)

Just unzip into your \extensions\ folder.

I've also got a request - could someone find the sound effect and remove it please. ( You'll know the one i mean. :P )

Enjoy. :)

Regards,

Does this increase the time these informations are available to you or update with the changes?

I just gave up on scanning after seeing it's just goes away after an hour. Which isn't that much in this game. Making it instantly 100% helps but I'd like the old ways when I could just bring up the map and look at offers, now we have a trading UI but it's getting outdated pretty fast...

Csaba, there is a mod called 5k scan range that allows you to scan stations at a distance of 5k. He has it set so that the trade offers last for a year. It clutters the trade window but it's better than scanning all the time. I changed his values in the mod from 1 year to 6 months.

,

Thanks.

I don't care for clattering just give this Otani guy an internet connection and make him an account on Amazon so he does not have to go to every supplier to get... ehmm... water.... Surely this shouldn't be that hard in the year 3000. -.- Also they forgot to use search fields apparently, well scrolling 5000 wares is better then going personally to farmer George every day to get that daily fix of wheat to the cows on the other side of the highway...

I would like a system that makes all elements of a certain type known, when you scan one of them. It is nice to scan some parts of a station, but scanning 40 or 50 solar panels of the same type is boring. After scanning one of of them, the others should be known at once. In the whole station or maybe only grouped by station parts.

I spent a bunch of time today between holiday festivities playing around with this mod and the unlocks.xml file in general.

I don't have a complete understanding of secrecy or scan levels, but I did find references to them that provide a bit more context in unlocks.xsd, scriptproperties.xml and GM_Reveal_Station.xml. You might check those files out if you haven't already.

The mod certainly works as advertized, though there is a bit of a basic functional problem with mods like this and the info-node scanning component of the 5km scan range mod in their current implementation.

That is: they're kind of useless because you're scanning from too far out of range of the nodes to unlock any discounts or commissions, which is the whole point of scanning info nodes to begin with. (as far as I know, at least.)

Increasing the unlock range of a bunch of discounts did cause them to trigger sometimes from the far side of the station, so it's definitely possible to get some practical value out of the idea if you want to keep pursuing it. It's just going to take a bit more grunt-work to edit all of the discount and commission entries in a way that suits your sense of game balance.

Good luck with whatever direction you take it in, and thanks for sharing your find! I had fun playing around with it. :D

This mod is working great! I have the settings set for 100% and level 3.

I like this mod as is for the moment since I am continuously starting new games. However I do have an idea to expand on this to balance it out later on...

In the future, have different scan levels linked to reputation. When you scan an enemy station, would have to scan each link separately, but if you scan a friend's station it will give you 100% (since friends will openly share their secrets :P).

@ Vim Razz
True, scanning at a distance does not show discounts, however if you move closer they will become available, the ship is still scanning even if I link is unlocked.

please add the save="false" parameter to your content.xml to make this mod removable without savegame editing. (see Observes Sticky Guide for Details)
if not stated otherwise everything i post is licensed under WTFPL

Ich mache keine S&M-Auftragsarbeiten, aber wenn es fragen gibt wie man etwas umsetzen kann helfe ich gerne weiter ;)

I wont do Script&Mod Request work, but if there are questions how to do something i will GLaDly help ;)

You could do a clean of that !

Code: Select all

<diff>
	<replace sel="/unlocks/information[@id='unlockchain']">
		<conditions chance="100" scan="false">
			<distance max="10km"/>
		</conditions>
	</replace>
	<replace sel="/unlocks/information[@id='unlockchain']/actions">
		<amount exact="100" />
	</replace>
</diff>
Liek this other mods can modify other values.

Setting <amount exact="100" />, <secrecy max="100" /> and <scan level="4" /> results in full 100% scanning on any station. Apparently, there are 4 levels of scanning total, not 3 with 4 being the highest. If Secrecy is not set to 100, it won't work and increasing scan level beyond 4 makes no difference.

Do you still get a discount when you get 100% with this addon? I'm not seeing it show up

I'm still fidning some don't 100% unlock, even with those settings.

If unlocks are that important and you're using a workaround via mod try editing your reputation to 1.0 or 1. Factions that you have outstanding rep with bare all in good standing.

If you set the scan level to 5, it scans the station (e.g. Hit-Tech) to 100% with just one Info scan. (no idea why, im not a modder^^ and the police scanner is the highest with scan lvl 4 if i'm right)

Mod works with 3.10 with a little (or big) exception:
Don't do anything (like docking) while it is scanning! It will cause your station to be half scanned!
Had this several thimes, and then you don't have any chance to scan it again.

Hope this helps some ppl

some corrections: there are 6 Scan Levels in Vanilla. Level 1 to 3 are for the Playership Scanners (Basic, Advanced, Police), Level 4 to 6 are for the Scanner Drones Mk1 to 3

That's what I need.
But why I find sometimes this mod doesn't work?
I still have to scan one info point by one?

Assuming you have used it correctly, there has been an update to Rebirth since the previous post so it is quite possible that something broke.

I am running 3.20 and this mod works perfectly fine.

Please note that it does NOT work on player stations and Xenon stations for some reason.
