Hello, Community!

Welcome to the X-Universe Forum Quest, let us introduce this little project.

We would like to offer you a competition while you wait for X Rebirth to be released and thus play X3: Terran Conflict probably for the 1000th time. We're quite sure that you know the universe you're playing in by now and so we have come up with some riddles for you to solve. Your knowledge of the sectors, ships, stations as well as the history of X will be put to the test in this competition.

This competition is not just to pass the time until X Rebirth is released. We have great prizes for the winners and for one "Lucky Loser". So be sure to take part. Even if you don't win, you might be the lucky one that gets the special prize. Ensure that you read the rules below. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. We look forward to seeing how much you know about the X universe.

Rules:
  • All registered users of the EGOSOFT forums are permitted to participate with the exception of EGOSOFT staff members, administrators and members of the XU Forum Quest group.
  • Answers are only considered valid if submitted via email to [no more mails please] including your forum nick. Note that you should inform us if you change your nick, otherwise you risk losing your score.
  • Please use XU Forum Quest Round x (where x is the number of the current round) as the subject for your email entry.
  • If multiple entries are submitted by the same user then only the first one received will be considered valid.
  • If multiple users share the same score, those who have participated in more rounds will be ranked higher. Should both scores be the same, then the users will share the same rank.
  • If any user posts a solution to a question (right or wrong) in the forum, they may be excluded from that round and the answer will be removed.
  • A 'Lucky Loser' is to be randomly selected from the users that have participated in at least 42% of the rounds and who is not ranked among the top three users.
Prizes:
  • The winner receives a signed copy of X Rebirth, a Steam X-Superbox and a poster
  • 2nd place gets a steam copy of both X Rebirth and X-Superbox
  • 3rd place gets a Steam copy of X Rebirth
  • The Lucky Loser will also receive a steam copy of X Rebirth

Using the bulleted clues, work out exactly what the subject of all the clues taken together must be - obviously from vanilla X3TC.

There is nothing more I can say than to repeat that you must use the clues given to work out what 'I' must be (only one entity fits). To put the same thing another way, what single entity fits all the clues?

It would be unfair to give any more advice than that.

It's a riddle essentially, you have to guess what thing the clues are all referring to.

I think I've got the answer but I can't see what the 'sounds uniquely strange' bit refers to so maybe I haven't.

Round 23 is over now. Thank to all participants. The correct answer are as follows:

Q1: Nathan's Voyage
Q2: Khaak Destroyer (M2)
Q3: Teladi Falcon (fighter)

Explanation of the third question: As Alan Phipps and others in this topic already stated, each sentence points to a clue. All clues taken together give the correct solution.
  • My makers provide a refuge named after a larger cousin of my namesake, where I and others in my class could enter and be protected. - The Teladi provide a carrier ship called Condor, where M3 ships like the Falcon can dock.
  • I have many close family but some are outcasts and one sounds uniquely strange. - There are Teladi, Pirate and one Prototype version of the Falcon.
  • One that watches out for others is the hardest to hurt of all in my class. - The Teladi Falcon Sentinel has the best shields of all M3 ships.
  • One with business pull can take on things where no others in my class could cope. - The Teladi Falcon Hauler is the only M3 ship that can carry XL wares.
  • In my close family, only my disreputable relatives and I cannot directly reply to what follows. - The Teladi Falcon and the Pirate Falcon versions have no rear turret.
The rankings will be updated during this day. The next round will then start on Friday.

I think you can guess what I'm going to say.

I forgot.

I always intend to do it on the night... but... well, I always remember it the following morning!

Yes, I saw it, but I thought "No, it can't be a Kha'ak ship" :(

But also the prominent metallic texture in the screenshot. The moment I saw that, I was certain that it had to be either Xenon or Kha'ak.

The texture was clearly from an X2 object because the X3 metal textures are completely different and it was apparently something big because things like the fighter drone were much lower detail. I did check a khaak clusters but I hadn't realised how much the texture on the capitals differed.

The Falcon one I found obvious. Initial thoughts was that it was something boron related (class and outcasts) but talking about hardest to hurt and business pull it became clear it was a ship and those two clues also pointed in the direction of it being Teladi. Some of them applied to other ships (the Barracuda particularly) but the falcon fitted best as a whole, although I still don't see why the prototype sounds strange.

Logically a prototype should be different to to other production models and ideally a unique model for concept testing. If you keep on making them all to the same version (eg Blastclaw Prototype anyone?) then they are hardly prototypes any more and should be given a production name. Besides, the Falcon Prototype was a unique (or at least very rare) NPC ship in X3TC.
