Cannot raise my Pirate Rep.

Post by Magnu »

Hi
It's been a while. Had a few health problems.

After completing the OTAS and Terracorp missions my Pirate rep has fallen through the floor.
In an effort to turn them blue again I've done dozens of jobs - using the Pirate ID thread to make sure I'm working for the right guys - 23 build station missions, 17 taxi missions and nine deliveries but they are all still an angry red. Not even an occasional blue freighter. Earlier in the game I repaired my Argon rep, which had reach the lowest rung, with much less effort. Can rep become so poor that it cannot be repaired or should I just keep at it?

Thanks for any help.

Did you already try to change your personal friend/foe settings in the command console?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I set that in Global Commands when I started doing work for them and I've parked all of my ships to make sure they don't kill pirates while defending themselves. All pirate stations are blue and allow me to dock. (Odd because although half the Yaki ships are blue to me, all of their stations tell me to bog off).

That's normal. Pirate stations don't seem to behave the same way as other races in terms of reputation.

Anyways, it could be that your rep was so damage that even after those missions you are still negative with pirates. Just keep doing them, only take the hard and very hard (they give higher rep boost) and see what happens. If you really want to know your actual reputation with them, you will have to open the script editor (and reload a save version after checking the reputation to avoid the modified tag)

Do you have scripts/modified? If so, just turn on debugging information and bring up the information of a pirate station/ship and your rep should be listed as a numerical value. At least that way you would know how far you have to go.

Don't be concerned with the ordinary Pirates. Just stay friendly with the Yaki. Ordinary Pirates - take them out, capture their ships.

Thanks.
I'll keep taking the jobs and see what happens but won't open the script editor unless I become convinced there is something wrong and I need to check. As for making friends with the Yaki, that's not going to happen as I can't forgive them for destroying my Truelight Seeker. If I wasn't trying to lower my combat rating I'd be down in Weaver's Tempest causing mayhem.

Thanks again.

You can temporary enable the script editor and check your pirate reputation number there to see where you are and then reload to avoid *modified*. Also, do you have any patrols? They tend to get attacked by pirates, set them to foe and then pray on Duke's freighters and other peaceful pirates.

I spent another couple of hours brownnosing the pirates last night but still no sign of forgiveness so I opened the script editor to check my rep with them. I opened it easily enough but I have next to no idea what I'm looking at.
Could someone tell me how to find what I'm looking for? (Or direct me to the right place to ask).

Thank you.

Are you sure your personal ship doesn't have Pirates set to Foe? Another indication of your rank with them, without running the SE, is to comm their ships, and ask for directions. Some of them can be pretty funny, but if they don't like you, they won't give you directions.

Yes, I'm sure. I've checked time and again in both the ship and global commands.
I've tried to com a few of them but all I get is 'Go away' or 'Go play with...' etc.

Then your rep really is bad with them, and you need to continue doing missions for them.

Here's a thread on how to check your Pirate rep:

Got it. My Pirate rep stands at -381.100. I'll see what happens to it when I do a few missions tomorrow.

Thanks very much.

Two more 'Very Hard' build station missions for the Teladi guy with the eye patch and my rep is still -381.100.
So either build missions have no effect on rep or my game is broken.

Something odd is going on. I flew down to Maelstrom to find half the Pirates were blue and set to '(0) neutral' but with the same -381.100 ranking points. That can't be right, can it?

Build missions don't take effect on your reputation if it is too low. This is true for other races and probably true for pirates as well. Try taking destroy convoy missions - I think fight missions still work even on a low reputation.

I've completed two destroy Teladi convoy missions, one 'Hard' the other 'Very Hard' and although my Teladi rep dropped one level, my pirate rep remains unchanged (-381.100).

If Pirate rep gets locked after reaching a very low level, I'm sure someone would have noticed by now. I can only think that my game is corrupted some how.

I loaded a previous game where my Pirate standing was at -83.000 and took a Very Hard build station mission, it rose to +4. So I don't think there's anything wrong with the game itself, just this particular save. Anyone have any thoughts as to how I might fix it? If not, I'll start another game and see how it goes.

Thanks for your time, folks.

I remember seeing a post some time ago with a similar situation. Apparently, if your rep with pirates gets too low, it gets stuck forever. If you have L3 access you could try posting it in the Beta testing forum. I would say it's a game bug, but it could also be intended.
