FPS better after patching to 2.0?

Post by ubica »

So,
I have not yet patched up to ver 2.0 of X3TC, but all things considered, I was wondering if people have noticed any FPS improvement after patching the game to ver 2.0?
By now I'm in 31 days in game time and my property list has grown considerably. With this in mind you can imagine that the frame rate went down slowly but persistently and is now on half what it used to be when I have just started the game.
Is patching to 2.0 apart of adding new sectors to my game going to do anything good to my game speed?

I'm patching as we speak, so I'll let you know how it turns out. I'm planning on starting a new game though, so I won't be able to compare it with my old game.
However, if I understand correctly, a new .exe is in the pipeline for patch 2.1, which has increased many people's FPS.
'Er, excuse me,' said Ford, following after him, 'which government owns this Brigantine?'
Marvin ignored him.
'Which government...' started Ford Prefect again.
'No government owns it,' snapped the robot, 'it's been stolen.'
'Stolen?'
'Stolen?' mimicked Marvin.
'By who?' asked Ford.
'Squiddy McSquid.'

The results of the patch in my game are nothing short of astounding. I have no lag at all in Home of Light. I've buzzed around my biggest complex, and I would have to say there is a massive improvement in FPS. Tested in battle I was getting hammered by IBL fire and I didn't notice any lag at all. I'm over the moon. My PC's stats are borderline the minimum spec for running the game too.

by why you said about your comp spec's i think this is good new's for me. cause that is one reason me and my dad have help back from getting this game. and where waiting for the new patch and it to be avalible to buy in a store in the US.

Not made any vast amount of difference to the FPS on my game really - the FPS killing sectors (150+ factories in complex hubs) still kill the FPS quite badly - as do Kyon emitters.

Other sectors seem to run marginally better, including Aldrin but it's only very minor. I don't think version 2 is supposed to be the big optimisation patch; that's going to be 2.1 AFAIK.

However - my PC isn't exactly "high spec" any more:

WinXP Pro 32
Athlon 3700+ (single core clocked at 2.21Ghz)
3 GB RAM
Single Nvidia 7800GTX (512)
Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS

I'm waiting for a stable Win7 release before I upgrade now.

- oh, almost forgot. I am running the following scripts which will eat up some additional processing power; how much I'm not entirely certain.

Commodity Logistics
Commercial Agent
Economy and Supply Trader
Selective Turret Control
Universal Best Buys/Sells

[I think that's it]

My specs are AMD6000+, 4Gb ram and ATI HD 4870 but like i stated before, the game slowed down over time and at this point it is at 17-20 FPS in busy sectors from 40-50 at the beginning of the game. Apparently it is heavy for the CPU so I'm hoping for some improvement in math logic.

May I suggest the addition of the Complex Cleaner to that list? :D
It should help with all the lag you get from the station filled sectors.

My rigs specs: P4 3.4 single core. 2gig ram. 4650gfx. (would have liked a better card but didn't want to bottleneck the processor.)

I was fairly happy with how the game ran before the patch, even in laggy areas. I've had a couple of hours play since patching to 2.0a, and I've yet to have a lagging menu. I think thats what I'm most pleased with; before the patch, dropping marines in a heavily populated sector I'd have to press a key three of four times just to get an input (which meant that the targets shields may have built up beyond 10% in the meantime, so I couldn't drop the marines anyway.) I've just capped a Tiger with a poorly equipped Hyperion; I think I would have died before the patch due to lag. Now I can see incoming fire and dodge it better.

I think there is an improvement. I don't know what happened, but before, when I opened the options menu it would hang for a second before actually displaying it. Now it pops up instantly. Plus looking at my drone complex doesn't lag as much as it used to. What's more the inexplicable lag from things like Trading stations and company HQs is gone... I think.

But I still get random graphical lag in PTNI headquarters, but I don't know what. All I know is that it's not the NMMC HQ.

No performance improvement was claimed for the patch, and I haven't noticed any improvement. You can be certain ES would have stated if anything significant was done.

However, there is claim 2.1 will have some performance improvement - although I have my doubts that they'll ever be able to fix what they broke between X3-R and TC. We shall see.

What was applied in the 2.0 patch for performance was the use of more than 2 Gigs of ram by the game, anyone with more than 2 gigs will see an improvement.

I have 4 Gig with zero improvement - or at least any improvement is unnoticeably negligible.

The major improvement is for computers with 2 GB+ of ram with a 64 bit operating system.
Come watch me on Twitch where I occasionally play several of the X games

Roll on sp1 for MS Windows version 7, I have 8GB begging to be used.

(I chose 32 bit as a compatability consideration, with a plan to upgrading to version 7.)

Good news for the 64bit users though. Booyah!

Arrr - poor ol' Win32 won't assign more than 2 GB RAM to any given application (unless you fudge it - be warned however, it may turn your CPU into a cucumber - hehehe).

You need a 64 bit system to really be able to assign a LOT of RAM... I tried to work it out once and came to a result of something like almost 17 million Terabytes as the maximum amount of RAM that could theoretically be utilised by a 64 bit system... I'm assuming I went wrong somewhere :)

I'm running at 8xA/A, 16xA/F, High Textures (- but still No Glow, don't like the effects..)
this is XPHome, via an HD3850AGP, 2G RAM, P4@3:00GHz in 1440x900 Widescreen mode
- with X3:TC set to use >2GB memory..

- haven't got a clue about FPS, but my game is really smooth..

- I'm impressed..!! 8)
- the whole universe is running in BETA mode - we're working on it.. beep..!! :D

Just to note - there was a performance fix being tested in the beta forum (with positive results for the people who tried it) but it failed to be ready in time for the 2.0 deadline. It was stated that the fix should make 2.1.

Maximum memory detected by Win XP 32 bit is 3.5 Gb or so, and unless there will be a 64 bit version of X3TC it won't get past this number. So I don't see how having a 64 bit OS would be better for anyone...at least as far as X3TC goes. The fact that the game can't use more than 2 Gb memory has nothing to do with OS.

Yep. I tried out the test .exe during the beta period and, it worked wonders. I tend to have some framerate issues in PTNI Headquarters like another poster here (Ianamus Zura too for some reason; is my PC allergic to Teladi capships?). The test .exe's optimizations helped considerably.

True, the test .exe does seem to provide some improvement; so 2.1 will be a welcome boost - especially for those of us with less than top-of-the-line systems.

I do find it interesting how if I use the X3-R map, get rid of TC's x3_universe_debris.xml, and cut Jobs back to X3-R levels, my Terran Conflict FPS more than doubles.

Perhaps time to revive the old X3-Reunion for TC conversion mod thread now buried in the modding forum.
