Questions about the Present and the Future...

Post by jambock1978 » Sat, 2. May 15, 23:23

Hi, long time don't see you all. I am here just to ask some questions, all i want is to receive some polite and constructive answers. ;)

Well, here we go:
1º - What is the real state of the game (Rebirth) now, i mean, is it working properly or still having some problems?
2º - Is Egosoft planing (or already have done) to add more playable ships to Rebirth? (Yes, i already asked it before but as i said this is the major problem of the game to me; specially not be able to pilot Capitals). Or maybe any modder already have done any mod of this type?
3º - NOT related to rebirth: Is Egosoft working in some new game, if yes will it be an Rebirth sequence or an X Sequence.

Thanks in advice for the patience.

its not about Piloting, but maybe the second Mod offered here also helps you: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=379177 especially since Capships turn really slow - no need to hold down a button for that, just say that the Ship shall move in that direction
if not stated otherwise everything i post is licensed under WTFPL

Ich mache keine S&M-Auftragsarbeiten, aber wenn es fragen gibt wie man etwas umsetzen kann helfe ich gerne weiter ;)

I wont do Script&Mod Request work, but if there are questions how to do something i will GLaDly help ;)

1: many bugs got fixed but still there are plenty. if you have a nuklear powerplant as PC it runs well but on general PC-s, even if brand new, its still lagging, have a bad control latency and low fps in many zones. gameplay didnt change much. some simple x3-like things been added like radar but nothing major what would make it more playable
2: they said 100% no more flyable ships and its not even moddable
3: there was a foggy sentence from bernie and many ppl think that it means they do work on something new, i myself dont think they do. for me this seems to be a weekend project and they spend the time they have on xr. (which is not much)

The second one really seems interesting, even if it do not really let me pilot the ship. But with the answer below, if it's true, it will not make any difference to me because i will not buy the game... Good work anyway. And thanks.

About Answer nº2 = Thats very very sad to me, all this time i had hope that even if not all the ships would be available to pilot that at least they would put some (specially of different classes) with time at the disposal of the player, be trough updates or even DLCs. But if the notice that it not only will not happen but it can't be achieved even trough mods is truth then this ended with my hopes (you have a link to the post where they say that they will not do it?).

I lived the initial storm of the launch of Xr, but sincerely aside the bugs i could live with the changes IF i could pilot more ships... thanks for the answers.

Hi Jambock,

I can somewhat answer your 2):

I've not been playing XR for very long, but with the mod CapitalShipBridge, you get a good feeling of commanding a CAP ship. A bridge is added with your crew sitting on appropriate positions, you can give your captain orders to:
- Fly to...
- Take me to...
- Attack...
- Join my squad / Leave my squad / Hold position / ...

I think Egosoft hasn't added any complex bridge because of FPS problems, and in fact, I had to lower my GPU settings to make all 'smooth playing'.

So I see no real point of doing more than that for CAP ships, EXCEPT: What I wish is better CAP ship behavior (and small fight ship behavior) during my absence, when I do not directly command them...And there is even a mod for that: it's called Automated Emergency Jump.
I suggest to look in the mod section, because it's hard that you won't find the solution you want :)

Greets,
XenonS

Confirmations like these result in a non-existing future for Rebirth.

I should point out that that post was referring to a prospective update to the current XR game. It does not mean that's being ruled out for future games based on the core XR technology; quite the opposite in fact.

Does this mean you actually work on that new title, or will we be left with DLCs for XR in the foreseeable future?

The engine may have some future, but the game doesn't.

Our main development focus at the moment is on adding new features to the game engine. The result of a lot of this work is likely to find its way into a new game rather than an update to XR, but that by no means rules out further updates to XR nor future DLC for it.

And Graaf, everybody knows that's your opinion because you've repeated numerous times, frequently, as now, phrased as indisputable fact. The real fact is that it was made clear prior to release that XR was not going to allow multiple flyable ships and that remains the case, so the game was never going to "have a future" in your personal games collection on that basis. If, despite the clear statements on the situation, you can't move on from repeating your mantra on this subject, then at least do other forum users the courtesy of stating it as an opinion rather than trying to make it appear as though you speak for everyone.

Wow, that sounds really promising!!!

Will there be a way and time for you to consider player feedback/ideas when development gets to that phase? And if yes - what are the requirements to participate in such discussions (i mean scripting knowledge or such for ex.)?

Thanks for the info, you made my day anyway =)

I personaly keep track of good feedback in form of bookmarks in my browser and try to incoorperate this feedback into my work.
You may have noticed, that i ask sometimes for more details, when people complain about issues, gameplay wise. In these cases i tried to figure out why something is bad and how we could improve it.

The game was stated to have a single player ship from the start and nothing hardcoded. So there was hope it could be added, either official or with mods. Even your responses as "unlikely" didn't rule that out.

These new statements about "100% not gonna happen" is like the last nail to many with hope of something better to come.

And before I forget, yes this is my humble opinion. But I'm usually right, which worries me.

Thanks for that!
I was mainly thinking about the next installment into which the engine changes mentioned above will be incorporated.
Know its early, got hyped a bit.
