Terran Conflict Turrets

Post by Slashman »

Hi all.

I'm still very much a newbie to all of this but I finally got lucky and found someone selling a Nova Vanguard for cheap and bought it for 135,000 Creds. Hull was well under 30% and I spent a looong time in my spacesuit repairing it.

Now that I have a ship with a turret and the Fight Command Software MKI and MKII, what can my turret do?

I've looked at the command options but I wonder if I tell it to 'Protect my Ship', will it shoot enemies as well as missiles? And if I tell it to shoot missiles, will it ONLY shoot missiles?

The commands aren't really explained in detail in the game. Any clarification people can give would be welcome.

For these explanations, in range means in range for the longest range weapon mounted in the turret and also within the firing arc of the turret.

Missiles only - what it says and nearest when in range.
Missile Defence - prioritise approaching missiles but if no missile approaching in range then target the nearest enemy ship in range that has caused you any damage or fired a missile at you. Missile defence only fires at half the rate of fire as for attack commands. Once a target (missile or ship) is engaged, the turret will continue to track that target for as long as it exists in range - even if that means ignoring a higher priority incoming missile.
Protect Ship - engage ships in range that have damaged you or launched missiles at you. It ignores missiles and gets fixated on current target.
Attack .... - attack nearest enemy version of what it says (and only that) when it comes in range.

If mixed weapons are in the turret, all weapons will turn to and fire at the target when it comes in range of the longest ranged weapon fitted, even if the shorter range weapons are still well out of range and so perhaps wasting energy.
