Every day something new to learn. Very Happy But don't overdo it. Use the suggested values in my post before my previous post and it should look nice. Too much planetary light has the same effect as too much sun light. ^^

------------------

Why should a battle take place in that horrible sector? The sheer Hub-Construction as well as the planet animation and the nebula, if not turned off, would melt TJ's machine. Rolling Eyes

Slightly updated the deathmatch maps. We're at 2.2 now.

-Planet in Arakkis moved back a bit, added some reflectivity.
-Reflectivity added to planet in Brennan's. This is the most I added to any planet, but I thought it made sense given the proximity to a burning lava world. Also, stars were given different brightness values so they show up as different sizes, though they still add up to the same amount of light.
-Slight reflectivity added to Earth in Geosynchronous.
-Slight reflectivity added to planet in Kingdom End.
-Slight reflectivity added to both planets in Red vs. Blue. The planets were both moved away somewhat.
-VERY slight reflectivity added to the closer planet in Plasma Accident.
-Stars pushed back in Garenisk, light should be only minimally weird now.
-Twin Giants, Protoplanetary, and Artur left unchanged.

Thoughts on reflectivity? Also, now that I know planets can emit light, I'm experimenting with the close-range sun that you see in the Hub sector. It causes slow-down only when it intersects with a nebula background... which is odd, but easy enough to work around. Anyone want close-range suns?

I'm proud to say that the Fleet Calculator is about 50% done. All formulas are now in place and working, all that remains is the fairly large task of inputting all the price data from the game, which askrowe and I will hopefully split between us!

Next there'll be an arena within a Dyson and in the HUB. The HUB would be fun, speed will not help in a limited enclosed space. Oh an spectator's. Very Happy

*Suspect's TS is working on even more arena's as a surprise*

Skipped that completely. I'd not use that planet as a sun. Rolling Eyes Yes, it's a planet, not a sun, which means that you'd still need another 'real' sun to illuminate the sector. Wink

@Deadbeat If the Hub didn't suck that much resources. Oops

Ah yes, the Fleet Calculator, I have been working off and on, still no fix on my PC's connectivity issue, I'll have to borrow a USB key to transfer the file to my internet PC, but I have most of the ships except for the fighters classes and weapons and missiles should be next.

Take a breather Imperium3 I'll be at it just a little while longer...

Ooohh first battle, I'm pumped! This will be awesome! I gotta cheer for the Teladi Task Force as I'm a Teladi fan! Go Clunkers!!! Razz

Aye, I reckon the Ossies will win.. Can't wait to see how they deal with insanely fast M5s and a few M7s though Twisted Evil

I'm concerned because my Fleet is similar to Aro's but I'm using all Teladi ships, so it'll be interesting to see who comes out on top... maybe the M6's will get worked, but I doubt it...

I'd say that the Ospreys have a good chance - because the opposition relies on frigates + missiles; however we all know how "good" AI is with big guns and friendly fire (and picking the right gun for the right target), and since the rules state that the default commands will be used (nothing will be changed), I expect no fleet to launch more than some 10-20 missiles per fight - since all ships default to 5% missile fire chance. And Heavy Ospreys can easily take a few missile hits.

So in general, I expect this to be a case of Veni, Vidi, Vici (iirc).

You know when Julius Ceasar said those words he was speaking in spite... he stood on the shores of the Gaullish coast and looked out towards Britannia and he knew he could never convince his men to go there, so when he said "I came, I saw, I conquered" he was admitting defeat with a statement of bravado, not as some would write (Cicero) in glorious prophecy of Roman victory...

It was more like not crying over spilt milk, than heroic embellishment...

sorry got off on a history tangent there... Smile

I don't know about the Ospreys. They're mostly equipped with short range weapons and the frigates at least have some capship weaponry. The biggest problem are in my eyes the PALCs - good for M5, decent for M4, but useless against anything bigger. Probably the initial assault will decide the match, depending on how many Ospreys die before they come in Range. In that case, the high speed of the Tiger and Panther turn to it's weakness.
