Flat Galaxy Map / Square Galaxy Map [2013-07-21]

as the name says this mod removes the 3D effect from the GalaMap mesh. the Flat Galaxy Map is just a flat version of the vanilla GalaMap. but the Square Galaxy Map is completely made from scratch.



Features:

Flat Galaxy Map
- flat yet still deformed
- made from X3TC/AP v2.5 sources
- doesn't invoke **modified**, even when used as fake-patch

Square Galaxy Map
- all sectors aligned to a square grid
- terran sectors moved out of the normal sectors and reordered to look like original X3TC/AP v2.5
- nodes for ALL possible sectors and short gates (except unfocused jump sector)
- nodes for X3TC/AP v2.5 long gates
- sectornames shifted for better readability (still overlapping on very long sectornames)
- doesn't invoke **modified**, even when used as fake-patch

- trishifting sectornames for maximum readability
- everything else like Square Galaxy Map

Square Galaxy Map (Noname)
- removed all sectornames
- everything else like Square Galaxy Map

Installation:
extract the 7zip file to your X3TC folder and you can select the mod at game start. these mods can be safely enabled/disabled at any time without harming your savegames.
you may use the CAT/DAT as fake-patch without becoming ***modified***.

A very handy idea. It'd be nice if this could be implemented into the vanilla game in the next release, with a toggle between the original "spacial" map and your "square" map.

I wish we could put a tiny little pixel font on the galaxy map so it doesn't clutter up the screen.

This mod looks good though, Sectors look a bit closer, making it more compact, and the structure of the sectors is more instantly recognisable.

i looked for a way to change the font or size but it seems like that is hardcoded into the game.
to make matters even worse the sectornames are aligned to the right bottom of their nodes, so when you zoom in it seems like the names are moving left upwards. i cant even change the direction of the names, everything else can be rotated like a whirlpool :( .

hmm.... , sector spacing is still the same since my first try, i think that's called a lucky guess :D .

Hmmm wish I'd known about this fake patch earlier.

Anyone have a working link to this somewhere? The original host looks like its stopped hosting it.

I agree these were a very eye appealing alteration. Can some enterprising individual, SunBlade, update to 2.5 and make available please.
