x3r vs x3tc

Post by Nosferatu666rules »

allright.. i've been at x3 reunion for a few weeks now, and i totaly love the game and my mind started thinking about terran conflict... i'm sure i'll get it.. sooner or later, first i want to finish x3r story line, and probably i won't be satisfied just there, as most of you can imagine.

though i do wonder a bit... is terran conflict a better game then reunion, what are the pro's and cons etc?

(can i get a save game from reunion to work in terran conflict (A) )

Well TC is bigger (more sectors), more ship variety, more mission types, slightly different than R but less of a learning curve, boarding, new race, new weapons, the manual is actually helpful. A sizable chunk of TC (some ships/sectors) came from the X3:R XTM mod. Let's see..what else, TC with exception of Kha'ak there are no longer gamma, beta, alpha weapon versions, no opening cargo bay doors to pick up freight, BBS is gone for TC replaced by by an icon on the upper right of the station bracket.

Some like TC better than R and others like R better than TC.

Saved games from R will not work with TC so you have to start from scratch again.

Alot of people liked having the XTM mod for R so you can get that was well for added playablility.

TC has it's share of problems, but I don't think it introduces anything that brings it down in comparison to X3R's earlier patched iterations. After playing with the 2.0 patch beta and the new .exe file which increases performance by around 30% consistently, I don't see many reasons at all for going back to X3R.

I haven't seen anyone say they prefer X3R over X3TC. Technicnally...

A few people have complained about:
Stability and performance of X3TC in comparison with X3R 2.5. Well, X3TC 2 ain't far off and personally, ain't had no real problems with 1.4
Lack of CAG. Again, it's available for X3TC (modified) and will probably get here as soon as (if?) the bonus pack is released for vanilla.
Can't think of much else - issues with UTs? Again v2 should resolve (a few people have suggested this, at least).

And, if you really want, there is a script which will take all your property from X3R and recreate it in X3TC. Don't see the value in it, personally - building up is the fun part :D

Cheers.

There are a lot of good stuff in both. I think TC has a much easier to use interface than R, but then again I really didn't like the interface for R at all.

Story lines for TC are fine, R was good early one then fizzled, but like many agree, who plays this series for the story line, we play it for all of the game play.

I think TC is much better. If you want to play R for a while and finish the story line, go for it. Worth playing in my opinion especially while it has all of the major bugs worked out of it and some nice updates with 2.5 while TC gets those updates with the soon to be released 2.0 and later patches.

Either way you will have fun, but once you make the jump to TC, I agree, you will not be going back to R.

the only real difference between X3R and TC is the story line... finish your story line in X3R and then get TC if you want.... TC has much more of everything (including races and ships), and the forthcoming patch will introduce a new story, lots of new mission and probably fix anything that people have complained about

allright, so i asume its save to say i should certainly get TC :P

yeah, i agree on the storyline, i like it and all, though if it would be JUST the storyline i liked... i think i would have quit allready :P its just too big to just enjoy the storyline,

good to hear about the smaller learning curve though, that was a b!tch in reunion, also glad to hear about that script for transfering property, sure the building up part is fun, though i have spend a few weeks building up my stuff (and seeing i so far have 1 station, 1 UT, 1 ST, a miner and a few fighters which i still need to repair and equip, i think i will have plenty left to build up :P

R3 with all existing mods has more functionality delivered and definitely more playable than TC3 in current state.

TC introduces a series of missions but apart from the cosmetics it still seriusly lacks of functionabilities so its playability is somewhat restricted... until moders cacht up and fill the gaps left by unfinished product (like R3 was a couple years ago).

R3 vs TC3 at moment

R3 wins on fuctinability (mature gameplay)
TC3 wins on cosmetic and has potential to take over R3 but still lurks behind (even with new extra content recently announced)

well, i like to play vanilla as much as possible, (not that i succeed with it much... did got the bonus pack for x3r after all, but still) at least untill i finished the story, so that x3r is better when you get all the mods / scripts and all with it, that doesn't really apply for me ;)
