According to the wiki, there are hundreds of paintjobs. The vast majority of them, needed to be obtained from Ventures. But you have disabled it for over 4 years now without offering a single alternative.
Every vanilla player who started after 4.1 is stuck with a very lacking selection of paintjobs. To add insult to injury, you need to farm them one by one from tedious war missions. I have over thousand ships, that I want to have a certain color. Currently there is not a single viable way to do that.
Instead of limited inventory items, can't you make them permanent unlockables instead and add a mass redesign function?
Sell them as microtransactions if you must justify effort. I don't care, I just want to finally be able to customize my ships while keeping my 450h vanilla save.
Can you please finally add these to the open universe now somehow? AFTER 4 years of waiting and hoping now?
[Request] [Vanilla] Add Paintjobs to the reward pool of missions and or traders? Or even as microtransaction?

Yes. I still have some few from back in the days that I can't use because they are not unlimited.
There are a few paintjobs that you can get unlimited. Thats the faction paintjobs. As soon as you reach level 27 with a faction you are allowed to use their default paintjob. But that it.
I hope we will get a better Ship (and Station!) redesign tool in the next game.

No microtransactions for paint, please, I had enough of this nonsense in Elite. Just make them as "pay to apply" option in loadout with rare ones costing more. Paintjobs could also be unlockable blueprints - "unlock once, use as often as you want". I mean, in universe it is just different setting for a hull painting machine. Makes sense for it to use money, doesn't make sense for it to be limited use items.Caedes91 wrote: ↑Sat, 3. Aug 24, 22:02 According to the wiki, there are hundreds of paintjobs. I'd definitely be interested in more paintjobs being available through missions or some other in-game way, but microtransaction rot is a hard no.

Maybe something for the Quettanaughts to sell/barter for?
Would give them a unique role, and I suppose you can tie it into lore by being a repository of their knowledge gained or something.
I've not yet unlocked QUE in game, so saying this from a position of ignorance, although I understand their current missions are bugged.
I would welcome skins in sets of 5/10 though, as the unlocks seem to be, so you can outfit a wing.
Regards

Trust me, I am not a fan of microtransactions either. Especially if it would be about things already in the game files. This would essentially mean shelling out cash for be on-disc DLC.
But they obviously don't see a gain in providing another way, so at least by paying, what, maybe 5 bucks for the whole package would perhaps give them at least a some incentive to do so.
I mean, they won't even convert the current ship models made prior to the Timelines or even KE DLC on an older software to be compatible with models that are now and going to be created on their new software.
So if they don't see a gain in updating one of the core aspects of the game, namely the ships, then paintjobs is not gonna happen, unless they can profit from the effort.
Therefore I would gladly pay once to get them to finally do it.

Re: [Request] [Vanilla] Add Paintjobs to the reward pool of missions and or traders? Or even as microtransaction?
There's likely a disconnect between what is considered a "microtransaction" here... Paying once like that is essentially asking for a (small) DLC.
Microtransactions would imply an in-game store of some sort, either using direct cash transation, or an "Egosoft coins" type middleman currency, whereby you can essentially purchase one copy of the current system of consumable paints for, I don't know, let's say $1; Then to repaint 1000 ships the way you want would require 1000 purchases costing you $1000 for that game.
This latter understanding is why most of us will honestly say no, thanks.
That said, I do agree with the main premise, because it's nearly impossible to customize ships in this game at a large scale with the current system. I just don't think microtransactions are the way to go especially if you thought Timelines complaints were harsh..

Online sources like wikipedia list cosmetic item purchases under microtransactions.
Exact definition doesn't really matter. Elite has this system and it feels disgusting to use. Partly because paintjob is not exactly perceived as an inherently valuable thing that is difficult to create.
A much better option would be to have a painjob editor, but I've not seen one in many games. Because when devs can instead milk players for money, they milk players for money. Those sort of systems were used to be present in racing games.
