Exactly my problem too. Engineers have done absolutely nothing from day 1 on any ship except the skunk. 5 star rating in engineering, 3 in the other areas, constructions drones, doesn't matter.marro wrote:1. engineer in rahanas sits there with command 'none'

Here is my solution the the engineer refusing to repair anything...
Capture a capital ship, save, exit. Load the SaveEditor app, find your new ship and click the "Repair all components". Done. Won't fix the Hull but everything else will be repaired. I usually edit the hull damage manually in the XML file.
Doing this all the time while the engineers are still broken. And I am using the free play mode. Engineers didn't work in the campaign either.

A couple things to check first. Do your ships have construction drones, and do they have a drone bay?
I ran into this problem when I capped a Balor and a Rahanas. Since we can't transfer drones or cargo between the Skunk and other ships yet, I loaded up a savegame editor and added some drones to them. This worked with the Rahanas; the engineer repaired things as expected. Not so with the Balor which oddly showed it contained drones , despite the fact that the savegame editor says it did.
At this point, some google-fu turned up a couple threads from Nov. 15 which pointed out that the Balor, and some other ships I can't remember, have no ability to launch drones, however many you add through the editor.
This might be your problem. No drones and/or no drone bay on the ship. If so its not a bug with engineers not repairing. Its a design flaw with the ship itself, namely its inability contain and launch the drones required to fix it. It sure would be nice to be able to fix the ships we cap without resorting to a savegame editor.
Give it time. Egosoft will address this one of these days. Meanwhile, just press the "fix all" button in the editor.

They actually no longer need construction URVs, they can repair subsystems by themselves (I only have anecdotal evidence that URVs speed the process up).
Are you or were you using engineer mods? That could be the culprit.
Also these repairs tend to take a while depending on the engineers skill. A 3 star will usually take around a half hour to get just engines up (they typically fix the jump drive first anyhow), a 5 star usually takes about 10 minutes.

Yes, as I mentioned, the cap ships (almost always a Rahanas) have construction drones. I check that before I go after it. I never destroy the drone bay. I keep that intact. Not using any engineer mods. The "Hull engineer" and "Improved engineer" mods did not work either. Clean game starts do not matter either. The engineers just do nothing for hours on end. I'm at the point now where I simply save my money and don't assign anyone to the captured ship - just cap and sell as is. Then eventually buy more ships to mine and trade.
As far as waiting a while for the repairs to get done... I've waited all day for a Rahanas to show any sign of repairs. Just left them floating in space with a captain, 5-star engineer, construction drones, drone bay 100% intact. Doing every hint and tip I could Google on how to get an engineer to actually repair a captured capital ship. No luck. That's where the trusty "SaveEditor" comes in..

I'm sure ES will fix the engineer bugs eventually.

I landed on a capped ship and when I went to remotely put on an engineer and pilot I accidently clicked on my own engineer and there was an option to repair this ship I clicked it and he helped out the other engineer so got fixed in about 5 mins. not the hull though.
