Moving to the Off Topic forum where hardware options are discussed.

If XR is anything like its predecessors then you should get the fastest CPU that your budget allows.

My PC has the AMD FX 6100 - the worst of the recent AMD bulldozer processors. I have had problems with it running some games (these problems seem to be bulldozer specific.) I'd look at the newer piledriver chips or an intel instead of the FX 4100. What does run does run well though, but there's always a "lurch" (low fps for about half a second) when the graphics engine first loads so benchmarks always look crap... in Skyrim for example after fast traveling it's like the PC needs to take a breath of air before you can do anything; I found it really annoying at first although I'm used to it now.

To be totally honest I think it very unwise buying a PC until the full specs of the PS4 and whatever console microsoft bring out are known. When the 360 and PS3 came out not long after PCs got a lot more powerful and I expect the exact same thing to happen now. I'd wait until nividia bring out their new cards in the summer if I were you because AMD usually lower their prices to compete too.

My rig's performance on the X3TC demo is pretty poor too (the game itself is really smooth,) and since your looking at a similar setup:

Code: Select all

Operating System:	Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.130104-1431)
DirectX Version:	DirectX 11
Graphics Card Info:	AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series [2769 MB] Driver: 8.17.0010.1172
CPU Info: AMD FX(tm)-6100 Six-Core Processor (6 CPUs), ~3.3GHz
Usable System Memory:	8192 MB

Video Settings During Benchmark:
	Screen Resolution:	1920 x 1080 * [32], fullscreen
	Using Shader Profile:	3.0
	Antialias Mode: 8x
	Anisotropic Mode:	16x

Graphics & Shader Settings:
	Texture Quality:	high
	Shader Quality: high
	High Quality Bumpmaps:	enabled
	Environment Mapping:	enabled
	Glow Filter: enabled
	Ship Color Variations:	enabled
	More Dynamic Lights:	enabled
	Used Vertexsize:	40 bytes

Framerates
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scene "Trade" 38.0 average fps 12.0 minimum fps 88.0 maximum fps
Scene "Fight" 83.0 average fps 31.0 minimum fps 186.0 maximum fps
Scene "Build" 112.3 average fps 65.0 minimum fps 245.0 maximum fps
Scene "Think" 51.2 average fps 27.0 minimum fps 97.0 maximum fps

Overall average framerate: 71.1 fps
Note the low minimum fps on the trade scene - that's that lurch I was on about.

It depends on how well the X:Rebirth engine scales with many cores. In Crysis 3, the FX-8350 beats almost all Intel CPUs:

Only the 800+ Euro Corei7-3960x does better.

I guess this thread is a good excuse to continue the hardware discussion that was so rudely interrupted in the X:Rebirth forum. And we are in the Off Topic forum already, so I expect no moderator interference  .

Now if Barren Earth will please show up, I can point out how much the quad cores outperform the dual cores from the same manufacturer in Crysis 3 :D .

If X:Rebirth shows the same kind of scaling, AMD will definitely be an option. Only for X3TC Barren has a point:
That game is single threaded, more than a dual core is wasted there.

I would suggest reading forum rules 9 & 10 and adjusting your expectations accordingly. ;)

Well, CBJ suggested it...

So we have moderator approval to continue here. Sort of :D .
