Terran Conflict Dead is Dead Saved game

Post by andik »

Hi all I am having a problem with my Dead is Dead savegame, I have the Steam version of Terran Conflict. Whilst on holiday recently I have been playing Dead is Dead mode on my Laptop, now back at home I have tried to transfer this save game to my Desktop, from [My Documents/Egosoft/X3TC] to the equivalent Desktop directory but the desktop Computer does not show a Continue for Dead is Dead, any clues?

I have the same problem, -- on the same computer, mind you. -- I had this AP DiD save game, fairly advanced, that I played in Apr-May time frame. I got bored and then played another game. When I came back this week with the new patch, the save game was gone. I never loaded Steam during the entire time I played the other game. I do notice that Steam Update not just Steam, but something else in the game directory, that may have made the Cloud save game incompatible. Either that, or Steam has an expiration time on Cloud Saves, and purge them regularly.

Can you load the save on your other computer?

I am unsure whether you can transfer DiD saves between computers without Steam noticing the different hardware signature and crying a DiD-foul since that way you could make off-line back-up saves and transfer them back in whenever needed.

You can easily test that by restarting a DiD game, transferring the confirmed good save and then trying to carry on with the other system. Let us know what happens.

That said there are obscure Steam procedural sequence reasons and 'acts of God' that can lose you DiD save continuance anyway.

Alan,

I did switch the same DiD game between my desktop and laptop. It works fine, as long as you copy the local save game over, and log in with the same account in both PCs.

Cheers Vincent, that clears that up and just leaves the procedural/accidental issues then.

Did you do a "Verify Local Cache" on your desktop?
If that failed, Steam may have changed the behavior of loading from the Cloud save. It worked before for me.

Yes thanx for reply vincent did that, IT MATTERS NO MORE because after entering Argon Prime the Game Crashed ending the 4 days 11 hours I have played (SETA time saved 1 day hour) So that's me and DiD finished unless Egosoft Fix it!
On the subject of DiD why didn't Egosoft (and don't blame it on Steam!) programme a Dead code in other words when you die that game is over no messing you could play it on your iPad for all I care but if you die you die, then game crashes do not come in to it because no dead signal was sent to Steam. I have played over 60 Games of DiD in Terran Conflict and Albion Prelude and 42% of Game over are to Computer Crashes, - check any other Steam DiD achievements and you will find that people can recover a Crashed Game.
When it takes at least a Game Day to reach the plot in any sort of order this is out of order!

If you allow people to continue playing from their last savegame after a crash then you also allow them to do so after deliberately pulling the plug on their PC because they don't like something that happened in the game. That makes an enforced DiD mode, as well as any achievements associated with it, completely pointless. There is no way around this; it's a logical problem not a technical one. The alternative, of course, is to play a self-imposed DiD game rather than having the game enforce it for you.

Incidentally, if crashes are that frequent on your PC then perhaps it would be worth posting a separate thread so that people can take a look and see what might be wrong with it.

I disagree with you here who would force reboot the computer to gain that scenario it's too severe a remedy because X blew up an OOS Station for instance. No a Dead signal is the only fair and proper way, as it stands for me anyway it is impossible to gain this achievement and that makes me mad  it is simple to send a crash error report the very same windows does to Steam to report the crashed game and reset the savegame.

And CBJ I have 24 AAA titles with Steam and numerous Boxed Games and this is the only Game that Crashes THE ONLY ONE
