X3 Space Freighter Computer Desk

Post by tsmpaul »

I've been wanting to make a 'home cockpit' computer desk for ages, and finally got around to doing stage one - turning my monitors into cockpit windows on an X3 Space Freighter.

I was going for a sort of clean, white, 2001 space odyssey kind of look.

The grills on the left and right have my speakers behind them, hiding the speakers by letting the sound come through un-muffled.

Beside the grills are small LCD things used in microsoft flight simulator, but I'll try to set them up to have some sort of animated lights effect cycling on them when flying in space.

In the middle is my Ipad, I just stuck some star trek LCARS images on it, so it looks like a spaceship interface of some sort. Up to the left and right of the ipad, I've attached some spare keyboard keys onto two panels, so it looks like there are buttons there, but they're just for decoration.

Anyway, I love how it came out. My ultimate goal is to have a full roof and sides on the desk, so when sitting at the computer, a person feels like they are inside a cockpit and not their bedroom :)

Here's links to some pics!

I am impressed. Yes, I'd continue adding improvements, and post the pictures on here. - I think you can say you've flogged it, after the walls and ceiling, when you add an airlock to the back end for entry.

Yes, I am impressed... and more than a little jealous!

That is inexplicably awesome. Freya is right though. Needs cupholders.

Nice, and plenty of room for a mini fridge under the desk to the left of the pedals!

Neat, I always wanted to do something like that but I always seem to have a space issue, no pun intended.

I may have a solution though! Now to come up with some cash without having to ask a Teladi.
