To all people wanting to write!

Post by Nathancros »

hello all, Ive noticed that this forum has quietened down quite alot.

I'm hope this changes..(Fingers crossed)

To all those wanting to write your own DiD or story. dont be afraid to! and if you dont get many replies..... Dont worry! there are many lurkers that pop in here(Me included!) to see all the amazing things you all write!! We love it!! as long as what you write is interesting, humourous or just plain awesome! im sure u can find an audience to read it, there are many people here with no desire to write, but love to read. You will always have atleast one person reading your stories!

This Forum has been the site of some very amazing stories.. others are a downright laugh to read, others can touch ur heart. Some make your jaw drop, others make you shake your head. I love it here for this!

As of late that has dried up a bit. the same people have been writing(and they are still awesome at it!) for awhile now. time to see some new blood i say!!

doesnt matter if ur character is a merchant/fighter/pirate/used argnu salesman!

If you can make it fun. we will read it :)

Good luck all. Enjoy yourselves!!!!

P.S hope the admins dont mind this post of mine..

Indeed, and even if you die in minutes because you ran into a full on Five-Alarm Kha'ak invasion in Herron's Nebula, we want to hear it. And your next few tries.

Because yes, the start of a new game is HARD. And each survival story is unique and horrible. And we want to hear all about them.

I like the sound of that idea, to be honest having to type up a full account of everything I'm doing in a game just doesn't sound enjoyable.

If there were some sticky thread where people can share an event, or a funny glitch, or how they tackled a plot mission then I think more people might be inclined to share since they don't have to bang out an entire lecture.

I'm sure everyone has stories to tell, maybe they just don't want to cover all the stuff in between?

I've been playing a lot of TC just lately, and across 4 or 5 different saves (Pirate, Merchant, Bounty Hunter, Yaki and Otas Employee), so I've had a lot of material to work from. The downside of the amount of playtime is the inherent lack of writing time!

However, I have been seriously tempted, as a result of re-reading Nuke-Slugs DiDs (and your latest one Triaxx2! LMAO!) to put pen to paper so to speak.

So, of my options above, which would you most like to see? :)

Definitely Merchant. And thank you. :D

I find that writing is best accomplished by using a second computer, in my case, my Laptop, and doing it while I'm waiting. Like waiting to reach my next destination, or waiting for the auto-pilot to complete docking.

I'd advise not doing it during combat, nor any time you're flying faster than 400m/s. And certainly not under Turbo Booster.

Also don't forget that there is a Pause Button. It's very helpful when something cool you want to write has happened and you're else wise occupied.

Here's a tip for the lurkers reading stories: post something in the thread :) This will motivate people to go on. Can be a small thing like *Good read* or light something you enjoyed/found creative *never tought of a Teladi wearing jeans*

It's just a small contribution on your part, but it'll surely keep the storytellers going. The most succesful stories had lots of posters as this keeps the teller going, as he knows he entertains people.

For the storytellers, providing a direct link in your signature to your story (stories) will help promotion of this forum greatly.

I'll second that! I'm not sure I'd have written Chapter 2 of Best Served Cold had it not been for that first comment from Captain Chris sTc - I might have had the idea, but whether I'd have posted it? No idea.

At times obtaining feedback can be hard work on this forum. I would also encourage anyone reading - any story here - unless they have a total aversion to posting, to consider typing in even a very short one or two line comment.

Without doubt getting a reaction to creative work helps make the whole process involved worthwhile and is encouraging - that is if you feel you want to encourage...

Sadly, confession here, these days I write my stories rather than reading other peoples' work here. :o

I have a series of shorts I will be posting, starting in the next few days, if that's any help for the forum.

I can also give general feedback on writing techniques, basic principles and the like, if necessary, if anyone is interested. For specific critiques, I would only offer them in threads where they were clearly outlined as being desired. But, I'm able to do those as well.

Oh, I tend to murder a lot of commas in my own writing and posts. Don't worry, the little buggers reproduce quickly and I have bucket-fulls of them... (Lots of periods for dramatic pauses too, even though I should use the more appropriate hyphen. But, hyphens are just too aloof.. hanging there.. above the line.. with impunity and all that..) I also tend to ramble when posting deep into the AM, local time. :D

Edit-Add: I may start a general "Writing Techniques" discussion thread and see if there is enough interest to continue it. If so, those sorts of things can help attract new writers and spawn newborn ones, as well.

I have been lurking with serious intent. *shifty eyes*

This passion I have for reading, especially sci-fi, fired the desire for a virtual adventure. Having lost much time but fed my imagination with X games of past, I was delighted to come across X3:TC. Naturally, a trip to the forum was in order, and for the likes of myself, mandatory. Being greeted (not that I'm suggesting a forum could be sentient; although that's a thought eh?) by the Creative Universe was a pleasant surprise, and I have to admit has extended the enjoyment of X.

Reading this thread has finally prodded me to register at last. One, to thank those that contribute to this forum, and providing entertainment inbetween X adventuring; and secondly to echo the author of this thread!

Write!

Writing is something I dabble with on the occassion. The contributers here have certainly inspired myself enough to at least think about tapping away on the keyboard to produce something - whether it's enjoyable for the reader would be questionable though! *grins*

Anyhoo, I've waffled enough I think.

Great forum though.

^ Same here. I love to write - and since i read almost exclusively sci-fi, the rest doesn't seem to have the same beauty to it (RL loves alien places and stars) i can't imagine writing anything else either. I've been lurking for ages and finally decided to register - after all even if i majorly suck at strategy and empire-building i am a long-standing fan of the series (and FFE before that). Once i free up a bit of time i'll probably make a spirited try. In advance sorry for the increase in suicide rates but i totally wash my hands clean, there is always the option not to read the awful stuff
