Greetings all,
As I'm starting to get a little worn out on my current game, I've been doing some thinking about a restart, and maybe I'll come back to this one later. I've done some reading about the DiD games, and it sounds like it might add a new level to the game...like some actual tension and fear! Haha!
I did some digging on DiDs, but I have a question...is there a standard set of rules everyone starts from, besides DiD? It seems like all the AARs have a completely different set of rules they are playing from.
Thanks,
Joshua
DiD? Sounds fun!

Short answer:
No.
Long answer:
Besides DiD and "reload restrictions", there are no rules "necessarily" used in a DiD. It's fairly common to use "save restrictions" and "repair laser restrictions" but apart from that, any game is placed in a set of rules imposed by the Story or masochistic nature of the player.
Types of restrictions/rules seen in several DiDs:
"Reload Restrictions"
- those are used to open some loopholes in the DiD-Rule. They may allow reloads in special scenarios, such like "Death by Autopillock" "Death by Gate Hug" or "Death by allied Idiots with Hammerheads"
"Save Restrictions"
- this may restrict you from using Salvage Insurance or even to saving at specific stations only
"Repair Laser Restrictions"
- most common are "no repair laser" and "no repair laser at Capital Ships"
"Race Restrictions"
- these may be used to make the game more challenging, by disallowing you to buy (or use at all) certain races ships and stations, if not to one races ships alone. Or keeping you from befriending those, who are lore wise your enemy.
"Jump Drive Restrictions"
- may partially (e.g. by Ship Class) or completely banish the JD from your use for immersion purposes
"Trade Restrictions"
- these may keep you from trading with certain races, goods, equipment or even completely forbid trade and/or the use of stations.
"Game/Story Rule"
- a mostly implicit Rule found in every DiD. There are two main ways to define it:
"The Game is the Story" -> things happening in the game, and only those, become part of the story
"The Story is the Game" -> the Story might impose developments on the game, such as spawning a new ship, story wise delivered to you by a rich uncle, or the #deca being handed to you after terran plot for what purpose ever the story want's it to be handed to you

i think the most important thing is honesty, for example letting the viewers know if they r using scripts etc,
also if u mention somewhere that u are nividium exploiting then that will put readers off i think.
