Installing with Online Steam Purchase

Post by MechEwok »

Hi,
I am new. Just purchased game. REALLY excited to get involved. I purchased this game from Steam.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/2810/

IT seems to run smooth, jumped in game for a few seconds. Looks beautiful, runs smooth.

Came here to DL this great content and it auto paths to save the content in C:>Egosoft>"X3content (example name)"

However, Steam doesnt use this file path. It has C:>Programfiles>Steam

In this steam folders are a few compressed folders. I DL this whole game in less than 30 min, the estimated time was 4 hours lol.

So I am thinking, Steam uses compressed files some where, some how, and I have no clue what folder to drop these cool content folders into....

Any one help?

Thanks!!! :o

Steam content folders are found here:

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\x3 terran conflict

Before you install any mods or scripts, you need to create a "mods" folder in your root X3 directory.

Hello and welcome!

Steam should install all the patches and official content automatically. Since I don't think that's what you're referring to, this should be in the S&M forum, and will be very shortly...

Mods and scripts do not include this Booster pack?

Booster pack considered "Official Content"?

Refering to the moderators comment. I did notice they auto patch. You mention they auto apply content as well? Such as this booster pack? Or do I need to drop files in:
"C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\x3 terran conflict"?

Sorry, I am a newb at epic installations

Thanks for fast reply, and by moderator as well :) Appreciate it so much!

Sorry, proper term should have been: "Bonus pack".

It seems to me that the post was made in non-S&M forum, and lacking mention of "which game", Rapier pushed it to the X3TC S&M.

AFAIK, Steam does not install the Bonuspack. But there are Bonuspacks only for X2 and X3R. You do not have to create any folders for them, because they have installer.

Ok, Yes my question is basically, how would I input the bonus pack (And any sort of file *save as* material that X universe comes out with) on my current game, that is through Steam. Steam game folders do not equal the installer default route. The RooksBaily guy led me to a path I did not see before (it is so BURIED in Steam).

So, to install the bonus content. For Reunion (and future TC), I direct the isntall to:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\x3 - reunion

or:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\x3 - reunion\mods

Thanks for help. Sorry im in TC forum, but when I purchase TC, I will have the same issue no doubt

Egosoft installer default is:

C:\Program Files\Egosoft\X3-Reunion

This does not exist when using Steam.

Ayia, I'm sure he's confused as hell now.

As far as I remember, the Bonus Pack installer needs to know the root directory of your X3R installation. That would be C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\x3 - reunion

If you're installing a script that comes in an SPK file, it requires Cycrow's Plugin Manager. I believe this version is compatible with Reunion and Terran Conflict scripts. This is a totally separate program, and so can be installed anywhere you wish.

If you are manually installing a script, it goes in C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\x3 - reunion\scripts unless it has accompanying language files, which go in C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\x3 - reunion\t
There should be directions in the thread belonging to the sacript, in the Tutorials sticky, or packed inside the script RAR/ZIP file in the form of a readme.

If you want to install a single mod file, it goes in C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\x3 - reunion\mods and will have to be selected at the splash screen when you start the game. You can tell mods apart because they come in the form of a pair of files called a .cat/.dat pair.

If you want to install multiple mods, you'll need to do A LOT of reading about "fake patches" and "merging" mods.

Scripts and mods bring many, many wonderful and awesome features to the game, but it has its own learning curve. Expect to have to reinstall the game (thereby possibly losing your savegames unless you keep strict track of everything you install[HINT HINT! :D]) quite often as you get the hang of things. Once you begin to understand how the game engine itself works, implementing these things will become much easier for you. I recommend reading through some of the guides in the Tutorials sticky to get acquainted with what you're dealing with.

Welcome to the Universe. :)

THANKS! That answers it to the core.
Ive read the game manual over, and in one day I started a custom profile (no story missions), and already doubled my revenue through game play. Some say this game has hard learning curve, but I am adapting naturally to its game play. Allot of fun!!

Great help from online forum. Thanks again! Since I am a noob, please accept my humble offer of 20 beef steaks *opens cargo door*.
