Ok i know this is a streeeeech so here goes...
I am running vista64 with 8gig ram (SP2)
I have 1.3tb on 4 drives in a RAID 0+1 array getting upwards of 280mbs read and write.
Im pretty sure that TC is a 32 bit program, so doesnt that dictate that its not going to access the full 8gig of memory?
If thats true cant i take the remainder approx 4gig memory and create a RAM disk and set my page file to it? I know when i create a RAM disk i get 3.2gbs read and write. This way i will kinda roundaboutly be utilizing my 8gig memory for TC.
Im i just out there or is there any merit to this train of thought?
I also thought perhaps i could just move the texture files to the ram disk but im not sure i can tell TC to look for them on a diffrent drive.
btw i also have a GTX260 with approx 856mb mem on that as well... i like to play the game at 1920x1200 but i am getting stuttering at random points in the game... i hate the stuttering...
DXDIAG for those intrested...

The OS limits the RAM used not the program. So if it needs more RAM the game will use it.
AFAIK using excess RAM like a RAM disc isn't possible. Don't know why you'd want to either as it's better to have it in RAM so PFing is less necessary.
Just my thoughts.
edit: Sorry I get tired of looking at 500 posts with useless DXDIAG info on other forums so it's just automatic that I ask people to cull the info.

Um, no... please don't suggest that. All the information in a dxdiag is quite useful, and it would be better to have the possibility of having useless information listed than to miss something because it isn't shown.DoHi wrote:TAS for the DXDiag we don't need the whole lot as it just clutters up the thread. Either delete it or just after the display devices
@jeremiah.sorbera - take a look in this thread for some suggestions which may help - particularly the >2G switch may help your situation. Note that the 2.0 patch will set this by default when it's released.
I note that you're running SP2 - that service pack is still in beta as far as I'm aware, and I'd recommend not having it installed for this game at the moment.
Quickly skimming everything else, I can't see any other obvious issues.

I found using Smart Defrag helped alot ( and its free which is always a good thing )
Now i just have a little lag mainly in battles as i use seta x10 all the time and its fast and smooth for me. Before the defraging of my drives i could not use it as it would lag to much.
Anything that helps in the long run is worth trying and it will take about a week of defraging, maybe less to notice the difference.

a couple of points:
a) the 2 gig switch thing. If you don't fancy editing the .exe manually, that'll be set after the patch, and on 64-bit windows that means the game can use up to 4 gigs.
b) As you have so much RAM, chances are nothing from the game will end up in the page file anyway
c) Vista is very good about using "free" RAM for disk caching. So even if the files aren't in the game's memory, they'll still be in RAM, and that means less disk accesses the second time the game has to access the resource. only in a very strictly limited set of circumstances is a RAM disk better than letting the OS arrange things itself
