Carrier launches fighters without the order to

Post by Spikend »

Hello people!

I was just doing a mission and jumped into a Kha'ak sector to eliminate an enemy force. I jumped in with a Tyr and a Panther, the Panther was set to follow me. BUT, when we start killing off some smaller fighters (m3 and down) the panther suddenly launches its' fighters.

Is there someway to prevent this (except from leaving them at a station)? The fighters are just set to standby and not protect the panther. Both my Tyr and the Panther should easily be able to kill them off without the fighters launching..

Sure there isn't a command from the mother ship to launch her defenses when hostiles are inbound?

Except if they are homebased to the carrier. It then becomes second nature for fighters to defend their home.

So if I don't want them to, I should not assign them homebase at the carrier?

Would rather have a command where I order them not to launch..

I think this is gameplay related rather than tech support, so I'll move it across...

well Spikend it seems you need to understand a little how carriers opperate.
The main weapon of a carrier is its ability to carry and launch fighters thats its strength.
Ok you say your distroyers can deal with any incarsions maybe so but don't under estimate the strength of fighters aspecially if you have the right missiles aboard them and your missile fire ratio's are set right.
Then just watch the damage those things can do.

if you don't want them to auto launch, then don't set home to the carrier.

Hmm well I understand that. But I don't like loosing any of the smaller fighters I have. Currently have like 4. And I like to have them in the carrier so I can launch them for support later on, when there is a smaller risk of them to be destroyed..

But well, thanks for the answers :)

There's nothing stopping you putting the fighters in the carrier and launching them manually--you just can't set their homebase to be the carrier. About the only difference that makes is that you have to order them to "Dock at..." the carrier rather than "Return home..." when they're done.

if you wannt make like easy for yourself (if you havnt already)

pick 1 fighter to be your wing leader... (name it so you can pick it out easy) then tell all your other fighters to protect the leader.
then dock your leader to the carrier, but leave his homebase blank until so he doesnt auto launch. then all you have to do it launch the leader, and the rest will follow him.
then if you want him to auto launch, just set his homebase to the carrier.
saves messing around with every single fighter.

simple!

Could be worse, I had a wing of ships docked at my Elephant as protection. They had the homebase set as the elephant.

I jumped the elephant half way across the galaxy and then noticed the ships were missing, turns out they undocked before it jumped and decided that they would fly the route on their own.

heh, its the basic principle of wings in X3:R.
without it, carriers would be even more of a nightmare.. lol

pity they never dock again once the threat is gone!

if you dont already, you can use that technique on patrols/defend position too.

set ur m6 to patrol/defend, set 1 fighter to protect the m6 and the rest to protect the lead fighter. and they'll all go after the m6's target. :)

i've got 10 nova's, and 2 centuars following a hyperion, all patrolling 3 sectors... never get any trouble with them :) except the odd nova gets shot down, but its easy to replace, unless its the leader, then its kinda annoying :P
i keep my wings small anyway, i have 5 fighters per wing, each protecting a different centuar, which protects the hyperion.
but they all end up protecting the hyperion really so i dont really know why i do it :P looks quite cool tho... soon the hyperion will be protecting a titan lol

This what I have done for my Panther with 32 fighters. I have assigned the fighters to a wing and didn't set their home base. That allowed me to command them all at once. However, you'll loose the commands like "Launch Fighter Attack". But there are wing commands to make up for that.
